Position Objective:

The Ponderosa Lodge (PL) Food Service Worker is responsible for assisting the Kitchen Supervisors in preparing high quality and nutritious meals in a manner consistent with MHA's mission, vision and values. 

 

General Qualifications:

The PL Food Service Worker is a Ministerial Support position. Ministerial Support staff serve in operational and service support roles and are not required to personally affirm Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) Christian mission, vision and beliefs. However, it is expected that staff who fill these roles – no matter their personal beliefs - respect, work in harmony with, and not undermine MHA’s Christian mission, vision and beliefs. Additionally, they are required to abide by MHA’s culture code and standards of conduct. All staff are expected to join gatherings, which includes prayer, worship, and Bible-centered teaching. 

 

Key Job Accountabilities:           

  • Assist supervisors and teammates by preparing meals by specified mealtime deadlines. 
  • Follow direction and recipe books to ensure consistent flavor and quality. 
  • Prepare amounts indicated on production sheets to prevent waste and ensure MH food flavor consistency. 
  • Follow all safe food handling practices. 
  • Fill out shift cleaning and temperature logs. 
  • Present the food to the guests in an eye-appealing manner. 
  • Be updated on BEOs and food menus. 
  • Replenish buffet lines, catering vans, and catering boxes as needed. 
  • Responsibilities to include dishwashing and overall cleaning of Ponderosa Lodge facility. 
  • Organization of dry storage and walk-ins. 
  • Providing service of food and beverage items to PL guests as applicable. 
  • Notifying supervisor with any maintenance needs with PL equipment or facility. 
  • Additional duties as assigned by the supervisor. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. 

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified.

 

Work Experience:

Minimum one year of food service experience. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate in English. 
  • Knowledge of basic math for recipe conversion. 
  • Ability to use basic kitchen utensils. 
  • Ability to create positive work relationships and work in teams. 
  • Self-directed with ability to work without constant supervision. 
  • Ability to remain calm in a high-energy kitchen setting. 

 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds. 
  • Requires seeing, hearing, talking, sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, etc. 
  • Ability to stand and move around the majority of the workday. 
  • Ability to work in hot and cold environments, both indoors and outdoors. 
  • Ability to use a variety of kitchen tools, equipment and utensils, including sharp objects. 

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. 
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a California food handlers card or be ServSafe certified.
