Purpose and scope:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in our cardiology clinic will provide comprehensive care to patients with cardiovascular conditions. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a compassionate approach to patient care. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, coordinating with other healthcare professionals, and providing education to patients and their families about heart health and treatment options.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment:
- Conduct initial and ongoing assessments of patients’ cardiovascular health.
- Monitor vital signs and perform diagnostic tests such as ECGs.
- Identify and document any changes in patient conditions and report to the physician.
Patient Care:
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
- Assist with cardiac procedures and tests, including stress tests, echocardiograms, and catheterizations.
- Provide patient education on disease management, medication adherence, lifestyle modifications, and follow-up care.
Care Coordination:
- Collaborate with cardiologists, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Coordinate and schedule patient appointments, tests, and follow-up visits.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation in patient records.
Patient and Family Support:
- Offer emotional support and counseling to patients and families dealing with cardiovascular diseases.
- Provide clear instructions on home care and lifestyle changes needed to manage cardiovascular health.
- Address patient and family concerns and questions in a timely manner.
Emergency Response:
- Implement emergency protocols and provide life-saving interventions as needed.
- Recognize and respond to cardiovascular emergencies such as chest pain or arrhythmias.
Quality and Safety:
- Adhere to clinic policies, protocols, and standards of practice.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to maintain up-to-date knowledge of cardiology practices.
- Ensure compliance with safety and infection control guidelines.
Administrative Duties:
- Assist with the management of patient flow and clinic operations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
- Support billing and insurance processes as required.
