MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Associate’s degree in construction management, public or business administration or a related field.
- Five years of experience in Public Works transportation operations or maintenance, and five years of field supervisory or lead worker experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations
- Must have a valid Colorado Commercial Driver's License Class B with tanker endorsement and a satisfactory driving record. An out of state CDL may be considered upon verification that the license will transfer.
- Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) Certificate.
- Stormwater (PACE) Certificate.
- ASE Certifications preferred.
- Road Scholar I or II through Colorado LTAP or ability to obtain upon hire
Desired Qualifications/Certifications
- Educational training such as a four year (bachelor's) or vocational degree.
- Completion of emerging leadership or management training through employer programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Knowledge of: Considerable knowledge of the equipment, material and practices used in specialized areas of streets including asphalt, concrete, signage, traffic signal, construction and repair including use of light and heavy equipment; care and operation of internal combustion engines of hydraulic systems, transmissions and differentials of electrical motors and vehicles. Knowledge in proper snow removal techniques. Considerable knowledge of personal computer especially in Microsoft Office products to include Outlook, word processing and database/spreadsheet programs to prepare written reports. Knowledge of Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) software systems.
Skills in: Effective leadership and management skills and the ability to deliver results with other employees, vendors, and the general public. Skilled in establishing working relationships internal and external stakeholders. Ability to improve field operations and exercise initiative and make sound independent decisions, handle non-routine matters, and assist in routine managerial decisions. Skilled in training and supporting team members. Ability to professionally respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Proficient use in computer software programs related to administrative tasks and field equipment. Skilled in operating hand and power tools, heavy equipment such as backhoe, street grader, dump trucks, snowplow, electronics, pneumatics and hydraulics and all other equipment used in the Public Works Department. Ability to read and interpret various construction plans. Ability to handle a variety of personnel matters, maintain confidentiality, and follow established labor laws. Capable in driving a culture of continuous improvement.
Environmental Factors:
Work is frequently performed in an inside standard office environment as well as an outside setting. Frequent to constant use of a personal computer. Work may involve competing demands, performing multiple tasks, and working to deadlines. Tasks frequently require outside work with high noise levels and local travel with occasionally walking on uneven surfaces and working with heights. Employee may occasionally be exposed to extreme temperatures, chemicals, gases, fumes, dust, moderate noise levels, vibrations, light to heavy equipment operations and working in traffic.
Physical Factors:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly grasping, fingering, and handling items as well as talking and hearing. Employee will frequently be sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time, use of near visual acuity and frequently moving objects weighing over 10 up to 100 pounds. Occasionally tasks require stooping, kneeling, squatting, climbing, balancing, reaching, use of far visual acuity, depth perception, and peripheral vision. Employee may rarely have some tasks requiring running or moving objects weighing over 100 pounds.
