THE POSITION: Safety Agent

The safety lead plays a pivotal role in the development, execution, and sustenance of safety programs and initiatives, with a primary focus on fostering a safe and secure work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors. This position entails multifaceted responsibilities, including overseeing compliance with safety standards, delivering comprehensive safety training, during onboarding and for existing staff, investigating incidents, injuries and near misses, identifying root causes implementing corrective actions, and continually enhancing the organization’s safety protocols.

 

The safety Team leader collaborates closely with various departments, including production, to ensure that work processes and procedures are executed with utmost safety and security in mind. This cooperative effort is integral to the organization’s commitment to safeguarding its workforce, visitors, and contractors.

 

To excel in the role of Safety leader, candidates are typically required to possess an OSHA 30 certification, the course will be provided by the company, along with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience within the organization. This combination of certification and hands-on experience equips the Safety Leader with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively champion safety practices throughout the organization.

 

Essential Job Functions of the position may include:

  • Conduct safety training for new employees (onboarding) and existing employees on safety protocols.
  • Maintain a safety training matrix updated with all training completed per employee.
  • Chair the Health and Safety Committee of the workroom, prepare the monthly agenda, collect minutes, and add the actions into the safety culture application.
  • Upload the monthly H&SC Minutes into the Safety Share Point.
  • Plan, coordinate, and lead, in conjunction with production, an evacuation drill for the workroom at least twice a year.
  • Familiarize with the use of the safety culture application (Safety Tool).
  • Conduct regular safety inspections using templates within the application.
  • Assign actions to maintenance, engineering, or production department according to the nature of the finding.
  • Follow up on safety issues reported (from any department) and bring them to closure. 
  • of issues reported by employees, leadership, H&SC members, other departments.
  • Report monthly workroom KPIs on Safety Training Hours, number of safety issues reported and closed, by department.
  • Support manufacturing including investigation into root cause of injuries, incidents and near misses and implementation of appropriate corrective actions.
  • Enter actions into the safety culture application for monitoring until completion. 
  • Support production in the preparation of a power point slide for each injury, incident near miss, and submit to the safety department and workroom leadership for presentation in the daily DBR call.
  • Participate in the workroom daily production meeting and communicate regularly about new safety implementation and feedback of existing plans and protocols.
  • Present monthly safety KPI’s results to the workroom leadership teams.
  • Plan weekly safety briefing for all workroom departments.
  • Report any safety issues or observations found during walkthrough immediately to the department supervisor and manager.
  • Address all employees, colleagues, managers and directors with respect, assertiveness, and positive tone of voice and attitude.
  • Lead by example.
  • Attend the weekly safety department meeting. (online).
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • English language skills are required, Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
  • Must have the ability to train personnel on all aspects of the safety.
  • Must be proficient in PC usage and MS Office, training will be provided for safety culture software.
  • Previous experience in an assembly/production environment preferred.
  • Able to stand for at least 8 hours a day.
  • Must be able to pay close attention to detail and stay focused on the task at hand.
  • Must be able to read and write and communicate clearly with others.
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds. May team-lift up 50+ lbs. Work in a safe manner especially when lifting.
  • Must be honest, have a positive attitude, be respectful, dependable, have a good attitude and a proven record of reliability (2+ years at previous jobs). Ability to understand written work direction.
  • Requires 5+ years of general work experience.
