Description

Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Library Assistant to join our team and provide essential services to our diverse community. This is a 32-hour per week, part-time benefited position. In this role, you will be the face of the library, offering exceptional customer service and ensuring the smooth operation of our resources. You will assist patrons of all ages with research, computer use, and access to our collection, while also playing a vital role in maintaining and organizing library materials. Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service & Circulation:
    • Greet and assist library guests in a friendly and professional manner.
    • Manage the circulation desk, including checking out and returning materials, and registering new patrons.
    • Respond to inquiries via phone, email, and in person, providing accurate and helpful information.
    • Assist patrons with locating and accessing library resources, including books, digital materials, and online databases.
  • Collection Management & Organization:
    • Catalog and process new materials, ensuring accurate records in the automated system.
    • Maintain and update the library's computerized database.
    • Sort, file, retrieve, and shelve library materials according to established procedures.
    • Repair and maintain damaged materials, or arrange for repairs as needed.
    • Assist in ordering and purchasing new books and library supplies.
  • Patron Assistance & Education:
    • Provide basic computer and internet use instruction and guidance to patrons.
    • Assist JST staff, the Tribal community, and guests with research and documentation materials.
    • Help patrons find recreational and explorational reading materials.
  • Administrative & Operational Support:
    • Operate office equipment, including computers, printers, and scanners.
    • Maintain a clean and organized library environment.
    • Adhere to all JST policies and procedures, including safety and work practice guidelines.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Tribal Liberian.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of basic library methods and procedures.
  • Library administrative training or the ability to complete such training upon hire.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate initiative.
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally as assigned.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with a variety of book genres is preferred.
  • American Indian/Alaska Native preferences apply.
