Description

The Corix team has an opportunity for an Energy Production Operator in Cleveland, OH for Cleveland Thermal. This role controls, operates and maintains boilers, chillers, generators and other mechanical equipment to provide steam and chilled water that will meet Cleveland Thermal’s client needs and demands for a clean and reliable source of energy 365 days a year.

What you’ll do

Major Accountabilities

  • Know, practice and comply with all Company safety and health policies and procedures applicable to work being performed. Furthermore, must write safe job procedures when requested.
  • Operate boilers and chillers in a safe and efficient manner keeping equipment in clean and working order; fully understand the steam/chilled water systems.
  • Maintain system pressures and temperatures to meet customer requirements.
  • Start, stop & operate plant equipment such as (but not limited to) forced draft fans, boiler feed pumps, compressors, chillers & other auxiliary equipment. Continually observe and inspect the equipment during operation by making rounds throughout the plant (all floors and roof).

General Responsibilities

  • Conduct boiler water tests (and make treatment adjustments), test softener room water (hardness, pH, alk, etc.) regenerate softeners, mix treatment chemicals, report and maintain inventory of reagents and bulk chemicals and unload deliveries of chemicals (acid, caustic, salt, drums, etc.).Document all changes in log book.
  • Clean, oil and grease equipment as well as repack pumps and valves as assigned. Perform weekly PM’s on equipment, blow down drums and sight glasses on a routine basis.
  • Change charts, take readings, take water samples and keep logs and records as directed.
  • Isolate equipment (lockout/tag out as required) for maintenance and assist in repair work on equipment or structures as assigned or needed.
  • Quickly respond to emergency call outs and assist as needed.
  • Keep accurate logs and records and be able to produce information for production reports (such as utility usage, fuel used, chilled water/steam produced, etc. Complete all paperwork on time, such as (but not limited to), timesheets, logs, daily reports, etc.
  • Inspect Company vehicles prior to operation to maintain safe operation and avoid trouble and delays during scheduled work.
  • Direct customer concerns to proper parties and coordinate activities performed in the plant by outside contractors and/or vendors.
  • Employees will be instructed on both systems and will be able to give guided tours of the facility to visitors and be able to explain, in detail, the complete operation process. Make sure all visitors have the proper safety attire and that they have signed in and out of the log book.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work space including plant, control room and vehicles.
  • Present a good image of the Company when dealing with visitors, customers and vendors.
  • Maintain a clean and professional appearance.

Qualifications

What you bring 

Experience

  • Knowledge in operation and maintenance of steam and chilled water boiler plant equipment and instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of elementary applied electricity and related subjects.

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED / Trade School
  • 3rd Class Boiler Operators license, Refrigeration license (preferred).

Knowledge, Skills, and Ability

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Ability to read and write common weights and measures and have basic arithmetic skills (read scales and ruler and make practical calculations involving fractions and decimals).
  • Ability to read, write; follow and complete detailed written and verbal instruction in order to perform routine duties without supervision.
  • Ability to use basic computer programs to generate reports as needed.
  • Ability to work overtime, rotating shifts, holidays and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to react quickly, think clearly, make decisions and remain calm in emergencies.
  • Ability to read and understand plant P&IDs. 
  • Ability to read and understand distribution maps.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, control panels and switches.
  • This job requires standing and walking for periods of time. Must be able to grasp, reach, twist, bend and kneel.

Please note

  • Works in a power plant environment and with large equipment. Will be exposed to hazardous conditions associated with the environment. Exposed to steam, electricity/high voltage, hazardous chemicals, extreme cold and extreme heat confined spaces, dust, grease, oil, fumes, wet, humid and noisy environments.
  • Must wear hard hat, safety toe shoes/boots, hearing protection, safety glasses, leather gloves and any other appropriate safety equipment when required; must be OSHA compliant.
