DESIGN ENGINEER INTERN ROLE SUMMARY
The Engineering Team is a critical group within DI whose purpose is to turn remarkable ideas into reality. The members of the Engineering Team are experts at balancing creative intent while also setting up the Production and Install teams for success as projects move through production and out into the field.
Falling in the middle of a typical project timeline, the Engineering Team must collaborate both up and downstream. As a Design Engineer Intern, you will work closely with the Creative Studio to understand and retain design intent while also collaborating with Production to work through the realities of building objects out of metals, wood, plastics, and other appropriate materials necessary to create remarkable experiences.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working collaboratively with our Design, Production, Technology and Project Management teams to bring our experience design projects to life

Assist the Engineering Team with reading, interpreting and preparing production and submittal drawings utilizing SolidWorks 3D Modeling software

Participating in a variety of project meetings

Performing at high levels in a fast paced, deadline-driven and ever-changing work environment
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience with Solidworks preferred

Familiarity with Rhino / Grasshopper a plus

Knowledge of materials, technology and fabrication techniques are a bonus but not required

Previous internship in engineering or production is highly desirable

Preferred majors: Industrial Design, CAD/Drafting, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology or similar degree
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The Design Engineer Internship is an hourly (non-exempt), full-time opportunity that runs from June 2nd, 2025 - August 1st, 2025. Applications will close on December 31, 2024. This is an onsite Monday - Friday internship in our Kansas City location. You must be at least 18 years of age, and currently enrolled as a college junior or senior or actively enrolled in a related postgraduate program. Please submit a portfolio with your application.
