Controls Engineer

Job Functions:

  • Develop and design electrical control systems using EPLAN software to meet project specifications and requirements.
  • Ensure all control panel designs meet UL508A standards, including proper component selection, layout, and wiring practices.
  • Assemble, test, and validate electrical control panels, ensuring compliance with customer requirements and industry standards.
  • Create and maintain detailed electrical schematics, BOMs, wiring diagrams, and assembly instructions for manufacturing and troubleshooting purposes.
  • Collaborate with design teams to integrate electrical hardware seamlessly into larger automation systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to control panel design, wiring, or operation both on-site and remotely.
  • Conduct testing and validation of control systems to ensure proper functionality and adherence to quality standards.
  • Provide technical assistance and training to customers during installation and commissioning phases.
  • Offer input to enhance design workflows, increase efficiency, and reduce field failures.
  • Inspect electrical systems and components for hazards or defects and ensure compliance with NFPA 70E, NEC, and other relevant codes.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in EPLAN Electric P8 and AutoCAD Electrical for electrical design and drafting.
  • Strong understanding of UL508A standards and their practical application.
  • Experience in hardware selection, control panel layout, and wiring for industrial systems.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical equipment installation, testing, and maintenance.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical systems and control panels.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively with strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation and customer interaction.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E, NEC, and related safety codes.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation components such as PLCs, VFDs, relays, and sensors (limited to hardware integration).
  • Basic knowledge of fieldbus communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus).
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams in a collaborative environment.
  • Experience in control panel assembly and testing is a plus.

 

 

Physical Requirements:          

  • Ability to perform both physical labor and office work.
  • Capability for safe climbing and working in structures up to 150 ft.
  • Visual acuity adequate for reading printed materials and computer screens.
  • Comfortable working in varying temperatures (-40°F to +110°F).
