Mechanical Engineer

Westfalia Technologies, Inc. has set the benchmark in the automation industry, delivering top-tier solutions and innovations. Our team is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to specialize in ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval System) system integration. This role entails collaborating on projects to seamlessly integrate mechanical components into ASRS systems, ensuring efficient operation and performance.

 Job Functions:

  • Project Responsibilities
    • Delivery of ASRS project system installation drawings. Includes installation drawings for mechanical equipment, power bus, crane rail, satellite rail, SRMs, and transfer cars.
    • Creation of specifications for purchased equipment
    • Coordination with vendors to define technical details in their scope
    • Editing and adding information to system equipment bill of material (ESS) and system design layout drawings in AutoCAD
  • Perform system integration work to design a system using information from customer building, Westfalia-supplied equipment, customer equipment and third-party equipment.  Work through problems to come to resolution. 
  • Check the work of others as part of the engineering quality process
  • Provide technical support during field installation and commissioning
  • Develop standard documentation for ASRS systems
  • Contribute to meeting company goals:
    • Improving efficiency in department, driving down system engineering KPI of hours/conveyor
    • Improving quality of system engineering deliverables
    • Meeting project schedules for Systems Engineering deliverables
    • Documenting and performing project engineering changes
  • Support other areas of the department, which may include configuring automated material handling equipment and preparing drawings and BOMs for manufacture.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work with a medium degree of technical supervision. 
  • A medium degree of creativity and latitude is expected in solving engineering-related issues and overall design, within company requirements
  • Ability to manage priorities
  • Good communication skills – need to effectively communicate with Sales, Applications Engineering, English-speaking German engineers, project managers, rack suppliers, customer’s general contractors, installation supervisors and Field Service technicians.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team that may have a broad range of skill sets: installers, other engineers, managers, etc.
  • Willingness to learn and grow in the position to understand the design philosophy of an ASRS system, conveyors and other material handling equipment
  • Must be knowledgeable in MS Office applications
  • Must have technical and analytical proficiency
  • Other duties as assigned by team lead or department manager
  • Minimal travel may be necessary (less than 5% over one year)
  • Some experience in AutoCAD
  • Experience with ASRS components and integration

 

Education/Experience:

  • BS Mechanical Engineering degree

 

Machines/Tools/Equipment: 

All computer and networking-related equipment are provided to employees for use in performing their necessary tasks. Candidate must have own hand tools. Company provided PPE for freezer work and fall protection.
