Systems Support Technician

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Systems Support Technician at Westfalia Technologies. As a Systems Support Technician, you will be responsible for performing field service, installation, commissioning, and support for all equipment built or supplied by Westfalia Technologies. Your expertise will ensure that our customers receive exceptional service and that our control systems operate seamlessly. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • PLC Code Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation of PLC code for control systems. 
  • Troubleshooting and Debugging: Identify and resolve issues with PLC-based control systems at customer sites, ensuring optimal performance. 
  • Control Systems Testing: Conduct thorough testing of control systems to validate their functionality and reliability. 
  • Control Systems Wiring: Perform wiring tasks for control systems, ensuring proper connections and adherence to safety standards. 
  • Control Systems Installation/Commissioning: Install and commission control systems, ensuring they are operational and meeting customer requirements. 
  • On-Call Support: Participate in an on-call rotation to provide emergency phone support to customers. 
  • Part and Service Support: Assist in sales and support for spare parts related to S/RMs, conveyors, palletizers, and robots. Accept, process, and follow up on parts orders. 
  • Customer Service: Deliver world-class customer service by providing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair support to customers both on-site and in-house. 
  • Collaboration: Interface with Sales and Engineering teams to meet customer requirements and facilitate effective communication. 
  • Documentation and Reporting: Submit all necessary paperwork in a timely and professional manner. 
  • Teamwork: Foster a sense of teamwork within the Service Department and maintain professional relationships with internal and external customers. 
  • Production Shop Support: Assist in the Production Shop with assigned tasks during periods when no service work is available. 

Qualifications

Qualifications: 

  • Travel: Willingness to travel approximately 70% of the time. 
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with customers and internal teams. 
  • Software Proficiency: Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and Rockwell programming software and hardware, such as Logix500, Logix5000, PanelView, and Factory Talk View (HMI). 
  • Technical Competence: Solid understanding of DeviceNet and Industrial Ethernet. Familiarity with mechanical hardware used in pallet, case, bottle, and bag handling systems, as well as packaging or material handling equipment. Knowledge of industrial electrical components and control system requirements in a washdown environment. 
  • Sensor Expertise: Familiarity with industrial sensors, including photoeyes and proximity switches, and understanding of the NEC. 
  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in industrial control system design, programming, and troubleshooting, particularly with Allen-Bradley PLC, HMI, and VFD hardware, and Siemens TIA Portal. 
  • Multitasking Ability: Strong multitasking skills with the flexibility to adjust priorities as needed. 
  • Safety Consciousness: A strong commitment to safety in all aspects of the job. 

 

Education/Experience: 

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent experience. 
  • Experience: Minimum of 1-4 years of relevant experience, including electro/mechanical repair and troubleshooting. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Stationary Position: Must be able to remain in a stationary position for  50% of the time. 
  • Vertical Ladder: Must be able to ascend and descend fixed vertical ladders, up to 125' high, for 10% of the time. 
  • Physical Mobility: Regular stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling in and around machinery for inspections and maintenance. 
  • Communication: Frequent clear and active communication with others during manual operation of machines. 
  • Visual Assessment: Ability to visually assess machinery in dark environments. 
  • Temperature Range: Work environment temperatures range from -40°F to 110°F. 
  • Travel: Must be fit for air travel and legally able to rent and drive a rental vehicle.
