Westfalia Technologies, Inc. is growing!  We are looking to hire a Controls Engineer - Team Lead to join our team. The Controls Engineer – Team Lead is responsible for leading a team of controls engineers, providing technical leadership, and driving the successful execution of projects. This role requires a combination of strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

 

Job Functions:

  • Lead a team of controls engineers in the design, development, and implementation of control systems.
  • Directs the day-to-day duties and priorities of team members.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to team members, ensuring the successful execution of projects and adherence to project timelines and Westfalia machinery and programming standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, mechanical engineers, and project managers, to define project requirements, develop standards and solutions, and ensure seamless integration of control systems with other components.
  • Design and optimize control algorithms, PLC programs, HMI interfaces, control panels, hardware designs, and other control system components to meet project objectives and performance requirements.
  • Conduct thorough testing, troubleshooting, and debugging of control systems to identify and resolve issues promptly.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in controls engineering, and actively contribute to the continuous improvement of team processes and methodologies.
  • Provide regular updates, reports, and presentations to management on project status and milestones.
  • Provide world-class customer service to all customers.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role, with demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team of engineers to achieve project goals.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI development, industrial hardware, control panel design, and industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, DeviceNET).
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%. • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • An excellent attendance record is essential.
  • Experience with project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) and project management tools (e.g., Jira, Microsoft Project) is a plus.

Education/Experience:

  • Engineering Degree or equivalent trade experience (4 year degree preferred).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience designing and programming Industrial Control Systems (5+ years preferred).
  • Minimum 1 years of supervisory experience in a technical capacity (3+ years preferred).

 

Desired Experience:

  • Working knowledge of the German and/or Spanish language is a plus. 

 

Physical Considerations:

  • This role involves a mix of physical tasks and desk work.
  • Ability to work in varied temperature conditions and physically navigate around machinery setups.
