Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Technician with a specialization in electrical systems to join our team. This role involves maintaining and repairing electrical systems, industrial machinery, and automation technologies to ensure optimal performance in our manufacturing operations. Ideal candidates will have experience working with 3-phase systems, 480V power, PLCs, and VFDs, with a strong focus on supporting the seamless operation of our production equipment.

Key Responsibilities

            Electrical Systems Maintenance & Repair:

  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on 3-phase electrical systems (480V), PLCs, and electrical components, including motors, controllers, and circuit boards.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical malfunctions in equipment such as mixers, dispensers, and automated filling systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance (PM) on electrical systems to ensure efficient and safe operation.

PLC and Automated System Support:

  • Program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLCs to automate manufacturing processes, including batching, mixing, and filling systems.
  • Interface with smart factory technologies to pull real-time data for process optimization.
  • Support software updates and ensure proper system integration for seamless communication between equipment and control systems.

VFD and High-Voltage Equipment Maintenance:

  • Troubleshoot and repair Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to maintain energy efficiency and optimal performance in large industrial motors and equipment.

Electrical Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout and OSHA standards, to ensure safe working conditions during equipment servicing.
  • Maintain compliance with Class 1, Division 1, Group D electrical connection ratings, which are critical in paint manufacturing environments where hazardous materials may be present.

Maintenance System Support:

  • Utilize CMMS systems, such as IMaint, to track and manage maintenance tasks, work orders, equipment history, and inventory.
  • Ensure timely completion of maintenance activities and accurately document all actions in the system.

Maintenance of Specialized Paint Manufacturing Equipment:

  • Perform maintenance and repairs on specialized equipment used in the paint manufacturing process, including mixers, dispersion mills, and automated filling systems.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Maintain detailed records of electrical repairs and maintenance schedules.
  • Report any electrical issues that may impact production timelines or safety.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance on the facility and equipment, including carpentry, pipe-fitting, plumbing, electrical (including high voltage), mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and HVAC repairs and installations.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions to identify timely repair solutions for down or underperforming equipment.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance (PM) on equipment utilizing a work order format to ensure equipment longevity and reduce downtime.
  • Assist and/or direct outside contractors while they perform their work during the night shift.
  • Serve as a resource for other Tnemec facilities, offering expertise on maintenance requirements as needed.
  • Follow all company regulations, safety rules, and procedures, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out, Hot Work Permits, Confined Space Entry, and others.
  • Use materials, equipment, and facilities in an efficient and conscientious manner, adhering to proper procedures.
  • Work assigned hours and overtime as required to meet production and maintenance needs.
  • Suggest improvements to Shift Lead regarding safety, job methods, equipment, or procedures.
  • Follow the HMIS and PPE Safety Program to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Maintenance Supervisor or Lead Person.
  • Attend additional training from equipment manufacturers when needed to stay up to date with the latest maintenance practices.
  • Willingness to travel to other Tnemec facilities and training sites as required for cross-location support and skill development.

Essential Functions

  1. Continuous standing or walking for six (6) hours per day
  2. Frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 100 pounds of weight
  3. Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, and repetitive motion
  4. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms
  5. Enduring temperatures up to 105 F. during the summer months
  6. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  7. Occasional operation of forklift and drum dolly equipment
  8. Occasional elevated surface work required

      Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing plant environment with exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, and respirators is required.
  • Compliance with OSHA safety standards for electrical work and hazardous materials handling.

 

Qualifications

Skills & Certifications:
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and maintaining industrial electrical systems and automated equipment.
  • Familiarity with PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens).
  • Experience with VFDs and real-time data analytics for process optimization.
  • Proficiency with CMMS platforms such as IMaint for maintenance tracking and equipment performance management.
  • 1-2 years of experience in industrial electrical systems, including 3-phase, 480V systems, and PLC programming.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing VFDs, is preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, especially in paint manufacturing, is advantageous.
  • OSHA 10/30-Hour certification and Lockout/Tagout training are preferred.
