Description

The Group Fitness Instructor reports to the General Manager of Health and Wellness.  S/he will also collaborate closely, other group exercise instructors, floor associates and babysitting staff to provide the best experience possible for our members and guests. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and the ability to multi­task and provide a safe fitness class based on their area of instruction.  Must have an overall positive attitude, great sense of fun and must present a professional image both internally and externally at all times.  Take the next step in your career!

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

The primary responsibilities of the Group Fitness Instructor include, but are not limited to:

Instruction:
•    Arrive early to class and stay after class to answer participant’s questions.
•    Provide individualized instruction while leading the entire group fitness class.
•    Vary routines while complying with established formats and standards.
•    Exercise routines, music, class format must be designed according to appropriate certification association.
•    Locate a suitable substitute teacher if unable to instruct class. If unable to locate sub you should CALL a supervisor.
•    Attend meetings and workshops to maintain current knowledge base and certifications.
•    Wear appropriate workout clothing. No ripped shirts, pants, or anything that would be deemed overly revealing or considered inappropriate.


Customer Service:
•    Use excellent customer service skills, establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, members and all members of the general public.
•    Greet each member and guest with a smile and personalized comment.
•    Attempt to know each participant’s name and their individualized fitness goals.
•    Develop relationships with members and encourage success of their personal goals in order to strengthen bond with the Albany JCC.


Administrative:
•    Maintain music and microphone volume at an acceptable level.
•    Put equipment away after use. Ask members to put their equipment away and wipe down their mats.
•    Assist in promoting other programs at the Albany JCC in each class by reading the provided sheets.


Maintenance/Safety:
•    Provide a safe group fitness class with a variety of movement.
•    Ensure that personal or mechanical problems do not detract from the members’ positive group fitness experience.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:
•    Current CPR/AED and first aid certification required.
•    A positive, upbeat spirit, "can do" attitude and great sense of fun.
•    Up to date Certification in appropriate areas for class instructing.

General:
•    Attend and participate in all staff meetings.
•    Be highly organized, flexible, and creative, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create effective tracking systems and adhere to deadlines
•    Ability to work well independently and under deadlines, highly organized, mature
•    Proven ability to juggle multiple priorities and move quickly from one project to another while meeting deadlines
