The Truck Driver – OTR/Long Haul is responsible for operating company tractor-trailers to transport finished goods and LTL shipments over long distances between manufacturing locations and customer sites. This position is intended for extended over-the-road driving and does not involve local or daily home routes. Duties include loading, unloading, and rearranging trailers as necessary, along with performing routine cleaning, servicing, and minor maintenance of the vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Safely drive company owned trucks
- Load and off load trailers and rearrange as necessary
- Housekeeping for silos, pads, barn, and yard
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, vehicle inspections, and deliveries
- Adhere to ISO 9000 quality procedures
- Ensure environmental compliance, including spill containment
- Run landing gear on trucks
- Strong understanding of truck driving laws and regulations
- Perform minor maintenance tasks such as checking oil levels, tire pressure, and other routine inspections
- Regularly clean and service the trucks to ensure they are in good operating condition
- Keep license up to date
- The vacuum hose weighs about 70 pounds and will need to be lifted 6 times daily and transferred a distance of 50 feetÂ
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Education
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience
- 3 years driving experience or minimum of 100,000 miles
Required Licensure
- CDL-A Driver’s License, A, X, C, HazMat and forklift certification
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Must be at least 21 years or older as required by DOT
- Mandatory DOT drug and alcohol testing
- Broad understanding of transportation industry
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to lift 35 pounds with some frequency
- Clean driving record
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects
