POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for leading and directing a structured and educational team gymnastics program for competitive level gymnasts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Ensure the reliability and safety of the team gymnastics program.
  • Create and apply weekly instructional plans.
  • Provide proper instruction.  Supervise all activities closely.
  • Ensure complete understanding of the training and background of each student including his/her limitations.
  • Maintain effective and timely communication with staff and parents regarding program news, changes, illnesses and other necessary information.
  • Set up and tear down equipment as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records, including but not limited to:  attendance sheets, progress reports, accident/incident records.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of proper techniques and progressions in teaching new skills and proper spotting techniques.  Continuing education is required.
  • Check equipment for safety purposes, prior to class.  Notify supervisor of any repair or safety issues.
  • Attend all staff meetings, in-service and other trainings as scheduled.

Child Protection Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to policies related to boundaries with youth.
  • Participates in required abuse risk management training.
  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possess or acquire USAG and Safety certifications with the expectation of maintaining such certifications on a yearly basis.
  • A minimum of 4 years coaching/leadership experience with youth gymnastics preferred.
  • Ability to work with all competitive levels; knowledge of compulsory and optional level skill requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of competitive skills from Level 2 through Level 9.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, sit and talk or hear.  The employee is regularly required use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and distance vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
