JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Position Title:  Installer / Builder

Date Revised:  06/24/2024

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

Reports To:  George Jones

 

Schedule:  Shift – approximately 8 hours per day between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with 30- minute lunch break unless arrangements have been agreed to by the employer and the employee; 5 days/week.  Usually 40 hours/week.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

This position involves installation and building of complex scenic elements for themed environments from a variety of materials.  As a part of the process, it will require designing, engineering, and creating build drawings.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Installation of scenic elements.
  • Build complex scenic elements.
  • Assist with gathering tools and supplies for onsite client visits/installations.
  • Collaborate with Production Manager regarding design, engineering, and construction of all scenic elements prior to commencement.
  • Create build drawings; make copy, scan to server, and add to master client binder.
  • Get approval of design and build progress from Production Manager.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of personal worktable.
  • Direct shop helpers as needed.
  • Maintain accurate Workflow Sheets.
  • Assist others in shop as needed.
  • Assist with loading trucks for shipping.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • Most of the duties are varied and regularly require analysis, comprehension, or limited judgment and discretion.  Some of the duties may not conform to standard practices requiring the use of the analysis and interpretation to resolve problems.
  • Requires the use of mathematical skills about 1/3 of the time.
  • Requires continuous concentration, alertness, and attention to detail.
  • Requires an intermediate level of reading and writing.

 

PHYSICAL DEMAND CLASSIFICATION:  MEDIUM (Frequently lifts up to 50 pounds) / HEAVY (Regularly lifts up to 100 pounds)

 

PHYSICAL AND COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:

  • Constant (67-100%): Standing, Hearing, Eye-Hand Coordination
  • Frequent (34-66%): Walking, Stair Climbing, Bending, Kneeling, Climbing, Forward Reaching, Overhead Reach, Grasping, Handling, Fingering, Vision, Hearing

 

  • Occasional (1-33%): Crawling, Squatting, Stooping, Crouching, Twisting, Side Bending, Sight with Color Perception.

 

  • Pushing/Pulling: Occasional pushing/pulling is required when the employee is moving equipment and/or scenic elements.   Force pounds were estimated to be up to 100#.

 

  • Lifting/Carrying:  Lifting/carrying is required when the employee is moving equipment and/or scenic elements.  Ground to waist height up to 90#.  Waist to chest height up to 80#.  Overhead height up to 70#. Carrying 10-15 feet up to 50#

 

This position has regular verbal and written contact with administrative personnel, middle, and senior management.  The nature of these communications range from a routine exchange of information to a process of securing information and/or responding to inquiries where explanation and discussion may be required using judgment.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 3 years of installation and related carpentry experience.
  • The position requires good, basic verbal and written communication skills (in English), good common sense; positive attitude; willingness to take initiative; and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work accurately and quickly under company deadlines.
  • Ability to operate carpentry tools and related equipment.
  • Communication skills – ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, in writing and verbally.

EQUIPMENT, MACHINES, TOOLS USED:

Computer, computer software, scanner, printer, telephone, copier, facsimile machine, calculator, postage machine, paper cutter, and hand truck.  May use other equipment as required for the position.

 

 

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

Environmental Exposure:

Inside:  98%                                        Outside:  2%                       Temperature: Non-airconditioned warehouse

 

Work is performed primarily indoors unless employee is required to go out of the building on errands or for truck loading.  Employee will be in contact with chemicals (i.e., toner for copier and facsimile machines), and materials (i.e., paper) normally found in carpentry and scenic construction warehouses.  Employee will also be exposed to noise and vibration.

 

Vision and Hearing:

Must be able to clearly see with or without corrected vision.  Must be able to judge or distinguish distance and space relationships.

 

Must be able to hear within a normal range with or without a hearing device.
