Geospace Technologies is an innovative design and manufacturing firm specializing in seismic sensors, smart water valves, direct-to-screen silk screen printers, and custom client solutions. Our vertical integration gives us a unique edge—we house a complete machine shop, mold shop, cable shop, SMT lines, and assembly facilities all under one roof. From software development to PCB design and final assembly, we control every aspect of our product creation, ensuring engineering control over all aspects of quality and innovation.

THE ROLE

This is an ideal position for a motivated engineer to begin their career while working on challenging projects in a supportive environment. 

Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, your primary responsibility will be taking designs from concept to prototype to product, ensuring every mechanical detail is finalized for production and manufacturing. 

This is a critical role to our organization and you will be leading the next generation of design engineers that the rest of our company depends on. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Learn to drive projects from concept through specification, design, manufacturing, and testing.
  • Design and detail fixtures for manufacturing in Solidworks. We take pride in making clean robust models that are manufacturable, economical, and reliable. 
  • Maintain rigorous revision control of your models for other engineers and our quality team to work from.
  • Adhere to human-centric design principles, whether for our field Service team in the snow or desert, or for our technicians on the assembly lines. 
  • Perform design analysis by FEA and checking validity using hand calculations.
  • Work with our documentation team to set up Bills of Materials (BOMs), routers and work instructions in order to release the product. 
  • Collaborate with electrical and software teams to ensure the finished product works as intended. 
  • Conduct testing to document the effects of engineering changes and to root cause issues. 

Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Proficient in development software (e.g. C++, Labview, python, etc.)
  • Proficient with electrical design and circuitry.
  • Creative Problem solving – Independently contribute fixes to issues in production.
  • Mechanical Aptitude – Develop simple yet robust fixtures.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work from our Houston facility (no remote).
  • Solidworks
