Salary: $24.64/ hour

Schedule: 8:45AM-4:45PM, Monday- Friday

Location: Hempstead, NY

Reports to: Program Supervisor

 

 

What drives the core purpose of this job:

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) operates a Youth Services program located in Hempstead, NY. This program offers employment readiness training programs to Town of Hempstead and City of Long Beach youth ages 14-24.  Programs include In-School and Out-of-School Youth and the Youth Employment and Summer Youth Employment Programs (YEP and SYEP). As a Youth Counselor, you are responsible for the onboarding, administrative oversight, and quality assurance within the youth program.

 

 

What are the key responsibilities:

  1. Offer direct guidance and operational support to contractors involved in youth services programs.
  2. Review youth enrollment documents from contractors to verify accuracy and assess program eligibility.
  3. Perform eligibility screenings with youth participants.
  4. Maintain, organize, and accurately input participant records, files, and documents.
  5. Evaluate monthly progress reports from vendors, addressing inaccuracies, needs, and concerns.
  6. Support youth in enrolling, monitoring progress, and tracking outcomes in occupational skills training.
  7. Complete technical tasks, including but not limited to preparing program reports, and representing Youth Services at both internal and external meetings
  8. Conduct youth program orientations.
  9. Monitor contractor performance in youth services to ensure adherence to program standards and best practices.
  10. Facilitate outreach presentations within local schools, community agencies, and other youth-focused events to educate and recruit prospective youth participants.
  11. Support staff during job fairs and other community events.
  12. Participate in staff webinars, workshops, and training.
  13. Complete additional tasks as assigned.

 

 

What key knowledge, skills, and abilities are required to excel in this role:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in human services, business, education, training, or related area is preferred
  2. 1-2 years’ experience in a similar role
  3. Bilingual Spanish speaking required.
  4. Honesty, integrity, strong work ethic.
  5. Flexibility in learning and adapting to different roles, with the ability to pivot and implement new strategies when necessary.
  6. Proficient in accurately and efficiently entering data.
  7. Skilled in in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  8. Ability to develop relationships with youth, parents, partners, employers, and coworkers
  9. Shows initiative while recognizing when to seek guidance or supervision.
  10. Ability to maintain the privacy of youth.
  11. Strong organizational and time management skills.
  12. Strong verbal and written communication and public speaking skills.
  13. Excellent attention to detail, with a focus on identifying and resolving errors in contractor reports and documentation.
  14. Ability to learn and master information technology systems such as databases and program specific software.
  15. Maintain regular, punctual attendance, including at internal and external meetings, professional development events, and other scheduled events.
  16. Experiencing in meeting with youth and their parents/guardians.
  17. Experience using the One-Stop Operating System (OSOS).
