Assistant Youth Career Counselor

EAC Network, a not-for-profit social service agency that empowers, assists, and cares for over 62,888 people in need through 100 programs across Long Island and NYC, seeks a full-time Assistant Youth Career Counselor for the Career Services Program.

The Assistant Youth Career Counselor position is a non-exempt position paying $24.64 per hour at 35 hours per week. The hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9:00AM-4:45PM and the office is located in Hempstead, NY. The role reports to Program Supervisor. 

Primary Purpose of Job:

The Assistant Youth Career Counselor is responsible for the onboarding, administrative oversight, and quality assurance within the Youth Services program.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide guidance and program support to youth services contractors.
  • Review youth enrollment documents received by youth services contractors to ensure accuracy and determine program eligibility.
  • Maintain and enter participant records, files, and documents in an orderly and precise manner. 
  • Review monthly progress reports received from youth services contractors and follow up to resolve any inaccuracies, needs, or questions.
  • Assist youth participants with enrollment and monitoring in occupational skills training courses to augment the training and mentoring they receive from contractors.
  • Regularly track customer progress and outcomes in Occupational Skills Training.
  • Complete technical tasks such as (but not limited to) preparing program reports and represent Youth Services at internal and external meetings.
  • Monitor youth services contractor performance to ensure compliance with program standards and best practices.
  • Conduct brief eligibility screenings with youth who walk into the Youth Services office inquiring about programming.
  • Facilitate outreach presentations within local schools, community agencies, and other youth-focused events to educate and recruit prospective youth participants.
  • Attend staff webinars, workshops, and training.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in counseling or educational equivalent required, degree preferred.
  • 1-2 years of relevant work experience required; experience using the One-Stop Operating System (OSOS) preferred.
  • Must have access to automobile and possess valid Driver's License.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be proficient in computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, Microsoft Office applications, calendar, email and/or database software necessary to perform work assignments.
