Lead a team responsible for driving ultimate customer satisfaction and on-water experience!  

 

Summary The Quality Control Manager is responsible for supporting operational excellence in the boat factory by leading efforts to maintain product compliance to industry and internal standards while reducing process defects and improving the outgoing product quality and customer satisfaction.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directly responsible for maintaining quality control inspection process, cost, and resources;
  • Oversee Quality Control Department: QC Supervisor, Team Lead, Trainer, Lake Testers, and QC Inspectors as well as data collection and record keeping. Ensure production support is aligned based on schedules and staffing;
  • Ensure company best practices for safety and 5S are understood maintained across the department,
  • Daily reporting of quality control metrics; lead production meetings and present related monthly quality metrics, pareto, and actions to Sr. Leadership;
  • Drive sustainable quality improvements leading to improved internal and external metrics such as DPU and customer satisfaction score (CSI);
  • Resolve quality issues by working effectively across departments to influence or engage others;
  • Train personnel in various quality methods, standards, and procedures;
  • Ensure quality control system effectiveness and conformance to industry standards;
  • Lead activities with the Operations team that aid in the reduction of internal Defects Per Units;
  • Develop and improve QMS: quality standards, procedures, and defined quality methods for the factory, along with forward thinking quality plan and goals;
  • Ensure product/process tests and procedures are properly understood, carried out and evaluated and that product/process modifications are investigated if necessary;
  • Manage and maintain quality inspection and testing for in-process and finished boats;
  • Evaluate and report metrics related to new product launches and signoff on production quality-readiness;
  • Use reporting sources including warranty data from dealers to communicate issues to the quality inspectors and factory employees;
  • Support Quality Engineers to investigate and drive internal and supplier improvement opportunities;
  • Manage and provide guidance to employees engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure high productivity and high technical integrity;
  • Meet day-to day deadlines to support production demand and minimize bottle necks;
  • Take containment actions when needed to minimize customer exposure to nonconformance's;
  • Collaborate for shortages or substitutions, lead yellow/red tag containment and final signoff;
  • Work with Operations and Engineering to establish and revise procedures, standards, and systems;
  • Determine product acceptable quality levels in production related to Fit, Finish, and Function;
  • Troubleshoot & make repair suggestions when possible and/or contact appropriate support for resolution;
  • Remain current with industry standards and regulations;
  • Lead continuous improvement projects;
  • Maintain a strong leadership presence on the floor for workers to stay productive and complete daily demands.

 

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:  

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college/university and 2 years marine experience. Or:
  • Associate degree and/or a minimum of 8 years’ experience with relevant marine industry training.
  • 2 years’ experience as a Quality Manager or show progressive career growth with recent leadership responsibilities;
  • Familiar with boat systems: DC electrical, waler/pluming, propulsion;
  • Excellent leadership and cross-organizational collaboration skills;
  • Outstanding attention to detail;
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills;
  • Experience writing procedures and standards.

 

Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

 

Other Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years supervisory/leadership experience in Quality Assurance;
  • Experience with quality system development and operation such as ISO 9000 or equivalent;
  • Experience with quality inspection methods;
  • Understands boats from a design, build, and on-water function perspective;
  • Demonstrate a passion and a responsibility for the consumer;
  • Willingness to travel when required;
  • Demonstrate written and oral communication skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and business software systems;
  • Ability to present information to a large group and interface across all departments;
  • Great communication skills across the business that align with company culture and teamwork.

 

Work Environment 

Work near moving mechanical parts, Toxic or caustic chemicals, Fumes or airborne particles, Risk of electrical shock, Vibration, Outdoor weather conditions

Typical 10-hour workdays, frequent overtime required
