Director of Engagement

Reports to: VP of Involvement

 

Job Summary

 

The Director of Engagement is responsible for the strategy and implementation of Thread’s community events and appreciation efforts. The Director leads and executes community-wide events in alignment with Thread’s core priorities, including events such as the Great Big Thread Family Showdown, the annual Holiday Party and the State of Thread. In addition, the Director leads and executes appreciation of the Thread community to support engagement and retention of all stakeholders. This includes ongoing donor thanking projects and processes, as well as unique rituals, events, awards, branded and custom gifts and campaigns designed to make each community member feel deeply seen and connected to Thread. The Director also coaches the Engagement Manager and the Project and Event Manager.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Leadership

 

  • Authentically engage in relationships with colleagues, especially across lines of difference, modeling, teaching and coaching the Thread Core Competencies: (a) Show all the way up; (b) Fail forward; (c) Treat relationships as wealth; and (d) Learn from all voices.

  • Act as an advisor on strategic organizational priorities and initiatives, making regular recommendations to the Lane Lead and Leadership team.

  • Provide insight and support to the Lane Lead as it relates to budget management and creation.

  • Share your journey of personal and professional growth with young people, volunteers, collaborators and staff.

  • Make the connection between driving towards outcomes and organizational imperatives and diversity, equity and inclusion explicit within the organization.

  • Demonstrate the willingness and resilience to engage in an agile and flexible way.

  • Engender and promote a culture of mutual respect and restoration and healing.

  • Acknowledge in words and behavior that each individual and role bring a unique

  • vantage point and support team members in leveraging that unique vantage point to gain greater visibility that leads to shared understanding and optimized and iterative problem solving.

 

Thread Events

 

  • Lead and execute strategic community-wide events in alignment with Thread’s core priorities including event communications, program design, speaker preparation, cross team coordination, event execution, feedback solicitation, evaluation, and attendance analysis.

  • Implement awareness initiatives and campaigns designed to elevate Thread’s positive public perception.

 

Appreciation

 

  • Direct and execute appreciation strategy for the Thread Community to support engagement and retention of all stakeholders.

  • Design unique rituals, events, awards, branded and custom gifts and campaigns designed to make each community member feel deeply seen and connected to Thread

  • Support engagement and retention of donors through donor thanking projects and processes.

 

Coaching

 

  • Coach the Engagement Manager and the Project and Event Manager.

  • Build a positive, long-term relationship with direct reports and develop, lead and evaluate relevant, individualized and meaningful one on one coaching sessions.

  • Empower, motivate and mentor direct reports, serving as a thought partner, providing in the moment feedback while being responsive and empathetic to their needs and concerns.

  • Instill a sense of accountability in direct reports by modeling transparency and oversight of individual and organization performance standards.

  • Monitor direct reports’ progress over time, with a focus on the deltas for both personal and professional growth and development.

  • Sustain direct reports’ engagement and effort by demonstrating momentum, providing clear direction, guiding him/her through the process and leading him/her to next steps.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Skills

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

  • 5-7 years of community engagement or community events experience

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to manage projects, organize and complete complex tasks and prioritize multiple assignments and deliver on a timely basis

  • Understanding of and passion for Thread’s mission

  • Proven leadership and collaborative approach to finding solutions

  • Prior experience with event planning and managing teams preferred

  • Quick learner who is able to simultaneously execute multiple detail-oriented projects

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to use judgment and objectivity in various roles

  • Creativity, curiosity and enthusiasm for meeting and working with a wide range of individuals
