Director of Communities (Years 1-10)
Reports to: VP of Communities/Managing Director
Job Summary
The Director of Communities (Years 1-10) is responsible for Thread’s strategy to connect, retain, and mobilize Thread’s volunteers and young adults in order to achieve their academic and professional goals (focusing on completion of a post-high school credential and securing a career). Thread makes a 10-year commitment to every young person it enrolls, and the Director is responsible for that journey of growth. To execute this work, the Director will coach and manage full-time staff called Community Managers (who each manage and coach a portfolio of volunteers and students to build strong connections and work towards their goals), Program Managers (who each manage a group of “Resource Team Volunteers” to facilitate progress towards post-high school credentialing and execute Thread programming), and Resources & Opportunities Managers (who remove resource barriers, connect to community resources, and work towards self-efficacy). A successful Director will drive the implementation of Thread’s Community Model to achieve exemplary outcomes for volunteers and students including mobilization and engagement; retention and satisfaction; post-high school credential completion rates; and strengthened self-efficacy.
The Director will be responsible for developing and strengthening Thread’s core programs and building the team’s skills to systematize practices that are both effective and scalable. While key responsibilities are below, they may evolve over time.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management

The Director is an advisor on strategic lane priorities and initiatives, making regular recommendations to the Managing Director.

Ensure data derived from the implementation of lane-specific programs and initiatives, are reported to the staff at large and utilized to guide decision-making.
Program and Project Development and Management

Planning program, engagement, and resource delivery strategy for Year 1-10 programs from start to completion, including deadlines, milestones and processes

Manage key protocols and practices around community mobilization, volunteer and student placement, community portfolio management, and more

Use performance, outcomes, and engagement measures to monitor progress and make adjustments to strategy or tactics as needed
Coaching, Training, and Capacity Building

Develop and retain a team of high-performing Community Managers, Program Managers, and Resources & Opportunities Managers to execute the program strategy and key functions

Strengthen team’s practices around a range of functions, including project management, volunteer management, programming design and facilitation, school partnership development, community mobilization, data logging and analysis
Administration and Compliance

Strengthen data input practices among staff and volunteers to ensure that interactions, academic and professional data, student and volunteer information, and other data is stored in-system

Oversee management of staff and volunteer budgets to ensure effective and compliant use of Thread’s funds all community members

Ensure staff and volunteer practices consistently adhere to legal guidelines, internal policies, and partnership agreements with partners
