Description

Provides a safe and loving environment for ages birth to 5th grade while working in Grace Church’s childcare classrooms.  Interacts with children in an appropriate and life-giving manner.  Works under the direction of the Groups Administrator/Childcare Coordinator.  

Classroom

  • Abide by all Traffic Laws as defined by Grace Church.

  • Respond to work requests in a timely manner.

  • Be polite, friendly, courteous and kind to all children, parents, and volunteers.

  • Greet each child and call him/her by name when dropped off by parent(s)/guardian(s).

  • Speak in a gentle tone of voice to the children and define behaviors instead of labeling children.

  • Keep a sign-in sheet of children in attendance and communicate any needs or concerns to the Groups Administrator/Childcare Coordinator.  

  • Arrive on time which is at least 15 minutes prior to the time for which you are scheduled.  Stay until all children are secured with a responsible adult or until you have been released by the Groups Administor/Childcare Coordinator.  

  • Clean all high traffic areas with disinfectant (tables, large toys that are used by multiple children, etc.)  Place all toys back into storage shelving and close securely.  Remove any leftover crafts and/or other items left behind.  Take out trash and replace trash bags.  Sweep/vacuum as necessary.

  • Maintain good hand washing/hand hygiene after diaper changes and after assisting children with tissues for coughs, sneezes or runny noses.

  • Wear gloves while changing diapers and disinfect diaper changing areas after each use.

  • Label all sippy cups with the child's name and ensure that children drink from their own cup.

  • Serve snacks, if provided, and monitor allergies.

  • Communicate needs for supplies to the Childcare Worker Lead or the Groups Administrator/Childcare Coordinator.

  • Report any injuries to the Lead Childcare Worker, Groups Administrator/ Childcare Coordinator, or other person in charge.  Complete the incident report and notify the parent(s).

  • Other duties as assigned.  

  • Attend training bi-annually.  

Physical Requirements 

  • Prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending.

  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds at a time.

  • Will be exposed to illness-causing bacteria and viruses.

Qualifications

Character

  • Born again and water baptized.

  • Have a life that reflects the teachings of Jesus (Matthew 5-7) and produces the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5)

  • Devoted to the basic disciplines of the faith – Worship, Prayer, and Tithing

  • Attend worship services regularly 

 

Qualifications

  • Have basic knowledge of children and expectations at each developmental level.

  • Physical ability to actively engage children on a variety of levels and positions to include carrying, floor activity, changing diapers, and large motor activities.

  • Have a spirit of discernment and discretion.

  • A willingness to grow and adapt to inevitable changes found in a local growing church.

  • Complete and clear background check.  

  • Ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities/characteristics/ability levels common to children ages birth - 5th grade.
