Wastewater Treatment Operator

Eagle River Water & Sanitation District is looking to add to our expert team of Wastewater Operators! We work hard to provide a vital service to the community by creating and controlling an environment for bacteria and microorganisms to thrive in order to treat our community’s wastewater and discharge clean water back into the river. Our Wastewater Operators use a mix of chemistry, biology, technical problem solving, and mechanical aptitude on a day-to-day basis to achieve that goal.

DAY TO DAY:

  • Operations and Maintenance: Under the guidance of experienced staff, the Wastewater Treatment Operator will perform a range of duties to ensure the proper functioning of the wastewater treatment plant. Responsibilities include the daily review of plant grounds, equipment maintenance, and facility cleaning to uphold safety standards.
  • Laboratory Testing: Collects water samples and conducts wastewater laboratory tests, including specialized field sampling. Notifies senior staff of test results and assists in implementing necessary changes to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Equipment Operation: Operates pumps, motors, sludge equipment, and odor control systems in accordance with regulatory discharge limits. Monitors and evaluates SCADA data to identify trends and anomalies, reporting findings to senior staff.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Conducts general equipment inspection and preventative maintenance throughout the plant, performing minor repairs and adjustments as necessary. Notifies senior staff of needed repairs and changes.
  • Safety and Compliance: Assists with monthly safety inspections, ensuring compliance with safety protocols. Maintains first aid, fire safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), and other materials. Follows all safety and security policies.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collects and calculates wastewater operations and control data, making process control decisions based on plant observations, lab data, and historical trends.

Qualifications & Competencies

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED, Associate or Bachelor's degree in a science-related field is helpful.
  • Must possess a Colorado Wastewater Operator Class "D" certification within 12 months of employment.
  • Laboratory experience is beneficial.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience with hand tools, pumps, and motors are preferred.
  • Willingness to work overtime, holidays, and weekends.
  • Ability to respond to On Call requests in a reasonable time.
  • Computer skills preferred, including Microsoft products and SCADA
  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver's license within 30 days of full-time employment.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification required within the first six months of employment.

COMPENSATION

We encourage the growth and development of our employees! There are four levels of Wastewater Operator with different titles and pay ranges depending on certifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The District will support you in earning your licenses. Pay range and title depend on certifications and experience. Starting range depends on qualifications but generally falls within the minimum and midpoint of the pay range. Pay ranges for each level are as follows:

  • Wastewater Operator I: $27.47 - $38.45
  • Wastewater Operator II (requires CCWP Water Treatment Operator C License): $30.28 - $42.40
  • Wastewater Operator III (requires CCWP Water Treatment Operator B License): $31.79 - $44.51
  • Senior Wastewater Operator: (requires CCWP Water Treatment Operator A License): $36.81 - $51.53
