Description

What You Will Do:

You will support a range of accounting and finance functions including but not limited to: 1) Recording, reconciling, and monitoring contributed revenue, and 2) assisting with other general accounting tasks including maintaining and reconciling fixed asset accounts. You will work closely with fundraising staff, the Controller and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). 

 

This full-time, exempt position is fully remote, with regular travel to quarterly staff meetings. We have a preference for candidates near one of our established campuses in California or Washington.

 

This position involves a wide range of responsibilities and roles, including adhering to internal control processes and managing the flow of confidential business information. Duties include (but are not limited to):

Contribution and Pledges

  • Receive and process pledges and donations that arrive via our development department.
  • Ensure that all transactions are properly coded.
  • Coordinate with the development department regarding collection of outstanding pledges receivable items.
  • Provide wire documentation for donations to the development department.

Fundraising Reporting and Communication

  • Track and report on the organization’s restricted funds, including complying with donor reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate to ensure the accurate preparation of grant budgets, develop spending projections, and monitor expenditures to ensure they comply with donor restrictions.

Other 

  • Work with the CFO and Controller to evaluate current accounting and finance processes, and assist with the design and implementation of streamlined workflows.
  • Manage fixed asset purchases, disposal and retirement.
  • Process monthly depreciation entries.
  • Monthly reconciliation of assigned Balance Sheet Accounts.
  • Prepare journal entries, analyses, and account reconciliations and assist with monthly-close processes.
  • Assist in annual audit preparation.
  • Attend occasional meetings in person (anticipated to be no more than once per quarter, and may include an annual staff retreat).
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

Compensation:

  • $72,000-$85,000 annual salary

Qualifications

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and at least 2 years of work experience within a non-profit finance department.  
  • Solid understanding of GAAP for nonprofits and fund accounting. Non-profit government grants and contract experience preferred; knowledge of Federal grant accounting standards a plus.
  • Proficiency in accounting and related software (Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Microsoft Word and Google Docs) and advanced computer skills, especially with spreadsheets required. Prior experience using SalesForce or other CRM systems is a plus.
  • Prior experience with process optimization, project management, and change management within a finance function preferred.
  • Self-motivated with the ability work independently, manage complex and confidential issues
  • Able to prioritize, multi-task, and have a high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
