Job Description

The Lift Maintenance Department at Alta Ski Area is seeking qualified applicants to join the crew as a Ski Lift Maintenance Technician. The Lift Maintenance Department is responsible for providing safe, effective and reliable equipment for transportation of employees and guests in all conditions at the ski area.

This is a year-round full-time position.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and hydraulic issues on fixed grip and detachable ski lifts
  • Repair ski lifts in time-critical situations during the operating season
  • Perform preventative maintenance activities throughout the operating season including inspections, routine operation of evacuation mechanisms, testing of safety-critical systems and more
  • Plan and execute invasive repair activities for the non-operating season including gearbox rebuilds, motor changes, control system upgrades, tower rebuilds, haul rope splices and more
  • Assist lift manufacturers in the construction and commissioning of new ski lifts
  • Lead crews of two to ten seasonal mechanics for troubleshooting and repair activities
  • Source and procure spare parts and consumables based on evaluation of parts availability and criticality
  • Collaborate with lift operations to continually monitor the status of the ski lifts
  • Generate procedures, best practices and lessons learned for continuous improvement of maintenance activities

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to ski expert terrain in all conditions—employment is contingent on ski evaluation
  • Ability to work at heights, in enclosed spaces and close proximity to operating machinery
  • Experience with critical problem-solving and systematic troubleshooting
  • Ability to work as an individual, a contributor, or a lead

Other Valuable Qualifications

  • Training in structural welding
  • Certification in Non-Destructive-Testing
  • Experience with troubleshooting low-voltage controls systems
  • Familiarity with drivetrain components including electric motors, drives, diesel motors and hydraulic pumps
  • Understanding of rigging, lifting and pulling best practices and component selection
