Academy of Hope Adult Public Charter School (AoH) has been a pillar of excellence in adult education in Washington, D.C., for over 35 years, empowering learners to achieve academic success, economic stability, and personal growth. We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Principal to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for our Ward 5 campus.
This role requires a visionary leader with a deep understanding of adult education, instructional best practices, and data-driven decision-making. The Principal will be responsible for advancing student achievement, developing educators, and ensuring a culture of excellence, equity, and engagement.
Key Leadership Priorities
- Strategic Academic Leadership – Set a clear vision for high-quality instruction, aligned with national standards and adult learning best practices.
- Faculty and Staff Development – Build and lead a high-performing instructional team through coaching, professional development, and evaluation frameworks such as the Danielson Framework for Teaching.
- Operational and Organizational Management – Oversee daily campus operations, student recruitment, attendance, resource allocation, and school climate initiatives.
- Data-Informed Decision-Making – Analyze student performance, attendance, and programmatic data to drive instructional effectiveness and school-wide improvement strategies.
- Stakeholder and Community Engagement – Strengthen relationships with students, families, community partners, and external stakeholders to advance the mission of AoH.
Primary Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
- Lead the instructional program, ensuring that all learners receive rigorous, equitable, and differentiated instruction.
- Collaborate with the Principal of Ward 8, the Dean of Student Academic Services, and the Chief Academic Officer to implement a comprehensive school performance plan.
- Oversee curriculum development, instructional coaching, and professional learning communities to enhance instructional quality.
Teacher and Staff Development
- Implement cycles of professional development, coaching, and classroom observations to support teacher growth.
- Provide targeted interventions and individualized coaching to teachers to improve instructional effectiveness.
- Establish a collaborative and inclusive learning environment that promotes innovation and continuous improvement.
Campus Operations and School Culture
- Manage and oversee day-to-day campus operations, including student recruitment, attendance management, and discipline policies.
- Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer and Dean of Admissions to develop and implement a comprehensive student retention plan.
- Ensure that the campus climate fosters a sense of belonging, respect, and accountability among students and staff.
Program Data and Performance Evaluation
- Lead data collection and analysis efforts to assess student progress, teacher performance, and program impact.
- Utilize data-driven insights to refine instructional practices, inform policy decisions, and drive school-wide improvements.
- Develop and submit internal and external reports, including grant applications, board updates, and compliance reports.
Stakeholder and Community Engagement
- Serve as a visible and active leader within the school community, engaging students, families, and external partners.
- Represent AoH at local and national education forums, advocating for policies that support adult learners.
- Strengthen partnerships with local employers, higher education institutions, and workforce development programs to enhance student opportunities.
