Position Summary: The Regional Director of Philanthropy reports to the National VP of Philanthropy and is responsible for developing and implementing management strategies to secure financial support from a portfolio of major gift donors identified with the capacity and inclination to increase their support of Childhelp. This position will have a dynamic and diverse portfolio of individuals capable of contributing to the overall revenue of Childhelp, with the goal of elevating these individuals to higher giving levels through exceptional Moves Management strategies.

Essential Functions:

Major Donor Portfolio Management

Under the direction of the National VP of Philanthropy, creates, builds and executes giving strategies for donors giving $5,000+.

  • Assists in the building of a progressive giving program that connects major donors in a meaningful way to the work of Childhelp.
  • Qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards giving of individuals for gifts on an annual or other planned basis in a portfolio of approximately 150-175 accounts with KPI’s against retention, lift, and promotion.
  • Collaboratively plan and implement new donor cultivation and sustainability initiatives
  • Administers day-to-day operations of the function ensuring efficiency and effectiveness and optimizing the use of available resources:

1. Implementation of database moves management in fundraising

2. Tracking KPI’s and objectives 3. Establishing project priorities

Major Gift Program Management

Under the leadership of the National VP of Philanthropy, develops and implements strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of Major Gift donors nationally.  

  • Creates proposals when needed by targeting donors based on propensity for giving and substantive interests; proposals to be reviewed with National VP of Philanthropy prior to donor presentation ∙
  • Recommends suitable giving vehicles for a particular donor, when appropriate, after evaluating various opportunities
  • Executes fundraising strategy through all mediums of communications.
  • Meets with National VP of Philanthropy on a regular basis for accountability, and to discuss strategy and donor adjustments.
  • Research new Major Gift donors using tools to update personal and contact information

Organizational Engagement

  • Engages current Childhelp volunteers and staff to develop donor relationships reflective of the needs of the organization.
  • Works closely with other departments to leverage events and activities to enhance account engagement and stewardship.
  • Facilitates face-to-face visits for cultivation, solicitations, and stewardship efforts.

Data Integrity & Reporting

  • Captures and records every donor activity in the donor database.
  • Produces and analyzes donor data through management of donor dashboards and scorecards.
  • Develops and manages Major gift portfolio to secure funding for organizational priorities
  • Tracks and produces reports on philanthropic activities and metrics with high degree of accuracy. Prepare specialized briefing materials for donors for use by the National VP of Philanthropy, as needed, materials will be used for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of accounts.
  • Uses existing donor database and communication systems and processes to track donor activity.
  • Provides trend analysis of Individual Gifts and Fundraising Initiatives through prepared special reports as needed.

Fundraising and Development Team Administration, Service & Support

  • Supports administrative, event, and fundraising efforts for the Childhelp campaigns
  • Represents Childhelp at fundraising events, meetings and activities as needed

Other

  • Assists Senior National VP of Philanthropy with various meetings and activities, including preparation, meeting arrangements, correspondence and presentations.
  • Assists in the creation and editing of correspondence, briefings, proposals and reports.
  • Assist the National VP of Philanthropy with special strategic projects and participate in assigned special projects as required.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

 Requirements

Education & Experience, Knowledge/Understanding

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) or equivalent; or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Major Gifts, annual and/or planned fundraising, preferably within a national organization with an annual budget of $5M or more.
  • Proven ability to retain, lift, and promote Major Gift accounts.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and positive demeanor with the ability to build rapport and garner trust with others.
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work in high-pressure situations.
  • Proficient in the use of a PC in a Windows environment; in the use of the Internet; and in the use of MS Office Applications such as Outlook, Word and Excel, PowerPoint; and in the use of Relationship Management systems.
  • Exceptional public speaking and presentation skills with the ability to develop and deliver presentations to a variety of audiences.

Abilities

  • Ability to understand and solve problems by applying intermediate analytical skills to include collecting all the relevant information and data needed to address the problem. Organizing, classifying and synthesizing the data into fundamental issues; from the information, identifying the most probable causes of the problem; reducing the information down into manageable components; identifying the logical outcomes from the analyses of the data collected; and, identifying the options and solutions for addressing the problems analyzed.

  • Ability to travel as needed throughout the US. (25% Travel)

Physical Demands

  • In the course of performing the essential duties one must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • No substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work.)

        Preferences

  • Knowledge of Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge NXT or other Equivalent CRM software
  • CFRE (or working toward certification)
  • History with utilizing project management system (Asana, Basecamp, Monday, etc)
