Description

Responsible for day to day oversight and coordination of procurement efforts in pursuit of maximizing the number and quality of organs recovered and transplanted.  In conjunction with Organ Procurement Leadership, is responsible for the coordination of ongoing training, growth, and development of designated Organ Procurement Coordinators (OPC).   

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

ADMINISTRATION

  1. Guides designated staff toward accomplishment of MTNs Mission and goals; including scheduling, training and development, coaching and counseling.
    1. Directs work planning: approves call schedules, time accounting and vacation requests, ensuring compliance with established policies.
    2. Serves as mentor to new staff by coordinating and participating in orientation and regular meetings to assess progress.
    3. Assesses and guides performance of assigned staff through interactions with staff when functioning as administrator on call.
  2. Collaborates with Organ Procurement leadership for staff selection, performance reviews, salary and promotional recommendation and disciplinary actions.
  3. Provides ongoing staff training to ensure compliance with policies and staff development.
  4. Maintains current knowledge in the field through participation in NATCO, ABTC and AOPO.
  5. Maintains current knowledge of MTN, OPTN and UNOS policies and CMS regulations.
  6. Maintains expert knowledge of the policies and protocols for the Organ Recovery and Surgical Care Unit.  Work closely with the Sr. Director, Organ Procurement Services to ensure the implementation and compliance to all such policies and protocols
  7. Maintains professional relationships and rapport with leadership, medical, nursing and ancillary staff within and outside of the organization.
  8. Actively and positively promotes the Mission and goals of MTN at all times.
  9. Provides information and interacts with MTN leadership on procurement issues to maintain a high level of service and support.

CLINICAL

  1. Supports the CCO and Sr. Director, Organ Procurement Services in overseeing all Donor Care and Surgical Recovery Unit operations, including regulatory compliance, supply and staffing management, physician interactions and donor patient management/recovery operations.
  2. Participates in administrative call schedule to ensure efficient operation of donor activities.
  3. Performs all responsibilities of an OPC and participates in the role when necessary.
  4. Oversees all aspects of donor evaluation and management.
  5. Regularly assesses and identifies opportunities for improvement in processes and leads/coordinates improvement efforts. 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Undergraduate degree in health sciences or equivalent required. RN licensure, or other allied health certification preferred.  Master’s degree preferred.  Three years experience as a procurement coordinator or similar role in the organ procurement industry preferred.
  2. Active CPTC certification required.
  3. Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week and participate in 24-hour call.  Required to work for extended periods of time with few breaks.
  4. Strong organizational, problem analysis and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability to motivate peers and achieve cooperation.
  5. Detailed oriented, organized, excellent tracking/reporting skills, effective written and verbal communication.
  6. Microsoft office proficiency required.
  7. Must maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with MTN motor vehicle policy.  Must have reliable transportation to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines.  Must be able to travel within the service area by ground or air.
  8. Ability to lift 50 pounds and transfer short distances.
  9. Possess ability to operate telephones, computers and surgical equipment.
  10. Ability to speak and communicate clearly in order to accurately convey information to donor families, hospital staff and transplant/procurement personnel in person or by phone.
  11. OSHA Category II – Occasional exposure to bloodborne pathogens while performing assigned job duties.  Bloodborne pathogens protection is required.
  12. Home internet and wireless phone access may be required.
