Description

Responsible for activities related to tissue and eye procurement such as daily clinical operations oversight, tissue suite operations oversight, and compliance with FDA, AATB and tissue processor requirements.            

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

ADMINISTRATION

  1. Guides designated Tissue Services staff toward accomplishment of MTN’s Mission and goals by providing oversight and guidance with scheduling, training and development, coaching and counseling.
    1. Directs work planning, approves call schedules, time accounting and PTO requests, ensuring compliance with established policies.
    2. Serves as mentor to new staff by coordinating and participating in orientation, onboarding and regular meetings to assess progress.
    3. Assesses and guides performance of assigned staff through interactions with staff when functioning as administrator on call.
  2. Collaborates with Tissue Services leadership for staff selection, performance reviews, salary and promotional recommendations and disciplinary actions.
  3. Maintains expert knowledge of FDA, AATB and Processor regulations/standards/SOPs.
  4. Actively participates in audits of Tissue Services by outside agencies as requested. 
  5. Works closely with the Director, Tissue Services to develop and maintain Tissue Department policies and procedures.
  6. Maintains professional relationships and rapport with management, medical nursing, and ancillary staff within and outside of the organization.
  7. Actively and positively promotes the Mission, behavioral competencies and goals of MTN at all times.
  8. Provides information and interacts with MTN leadership on tissue procurement issues to maintain a high level of service and support.

CLINICAL

  1. Responsible for clinical oversight of tissue activities including mentoring tissue procurement staff.
  2. Works closely with the Tissue Services Clinical Educator and Corporate Education team to ensure timely, accurate and well-documented training of all staff members, including new staff orientation and ongoing training.
  3. Provides oversight of clinical training.
  4. Maintains administrative call responsibilities including participating in recovery cases as needed to ensure MTN is always meeting the organization’s Mission. 
  5. Responsible for completion of the tissue department schedule and ensuring appropriate coverage for tissue recovery, including accepting call responsibilities to fill any vacancies in the tissue schedule as necessary.
  6. Responsible for evaluating staff clinical performance through regular case participation and involvement, and recommending additional training or improvement plans as necessary.
  7. Responsible for maintaining expert proficiency in all aspects of the tissue recovery process.
  8. Works in conjunction with Director, Tissue Services and the ME/FH/Coroner Liaison to ensure relationships are maintained with funeral homes and medical examiners to ensure smooth donation process.
  9. Supports recovery suite operations and upkeep, including supplies, cleaning and repairs.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Undergraduate degree in biological sciences or allied health or equivalent education and experience required.
  2. CTBS certification required
  3. Three or more years experience as a TPC or equivalent OPO/Industry experience required. 
  4. Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week and participate in 24-hour call.  Required to work for extended periods of time with few breaks.
  5. Must maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with MTN motor vehicle policy.  Must have reliable transportation to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines.  Must be able to travel within the service area by ground or air.
  6. Excellent organization and time management skills; ability to function independently and collaboratively; good problem-solving and creative thinking skills and well-developed personal stress management skills.
  7. Ability to lift 50 pounds and transfer short distances.
  8. Possess the ability to operate telephones, computers and surgical equipment.
  9. Ability to speak and communicate clearly in order to accurately convey information in person or by phone.
  10. Ability to analyze and interpret data.
  11. OSHA Category II – Occasional exposure to bloodborne pathogens while performing assigned job duties.
  12. Bloodborne pathogens protection is required.
  13. Access to internet and phone may be required outside of work hours.
