Description

SUMMARY

Perform software and hardware related design, integration, and modification for CNC lathes and other associated peripheral automation equipment. Use ladder logic software and machine language programming to modify and design complete systems for part automation and control of base machine lathe. Work closely with other Engineering disciplines to develop products and systems to satisfy customer orders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Use ladder logic programming and Murata custom software to control CNC lathe and to integrate peripheral automation equipment.

Developing PLC, HMI, and/or logic to customer standards.

Work with Engineering Management and Project Managers to meet customer delivery schedule(s). Manage time for multiple projects.

Use project programming guidelines to design systems that meet customer specifications and adhere to industry safety standards.

Work with electrical & mechanical design team to develop IO lists and control of equipment functions and automatic operation.

Involved with projects from design to completion.

Submit status reports to Engineering Manager and Project Manager on progress of assigned projects, as required.

Attend customer and design review meetings.

Travel to customer facilities to install, modify and debug software.

Work as a team within the controls department for projects and departmental goals but also be able to work independently with moderate supervision.

Work with other departments within the Machine Tools Division as required by project and engineering management.

Research and develop new equipment and processes that can be interfaced with Murata machines and keep abreast of new technology.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree BSEE, BSSE, BSEET or equivalent technical degree with four plus year’s related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to create technical documents clearly and correctly.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, furnished in written or oral form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Allen Bradley PLC and motion controls experience. Knowledge of Mitsubishi PLC systems a plus. Fanuc interface experience a plus. Robot programing experience a plus.

TRAVEL

This position requires up to 25% travel including domestic and international with overnight stays. A valid driver’s license, good driving record, and ability to acquire a passport are required.
