SUMMARY

Participate in the building of all mechanical assemblies including complex mechanical assemblies which incorporate electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems according to blueprint specifications. Ability to delegate responsibilities while taking the lead on sophisticated machine assemblies, installations and multi-machine installations. Perform a variety of complicated tasks by relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assemble, test, repair and install complex mechanical assemblies such as Post-Process Gage Assemblies and related Gauge and Automated Systems, assemblies which incorporate electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems according to blueprint specifications.

  • Delegate responsibilities while taking the lead on sophisticated machine assemblies, installations and multi-machine installations.

  • Examine component parts for defects, recognize engineering design issues, initialize component inspection procedures and implement corrective actions (Return to stock Forms, Formal Component Inspection and/or engineering change requests).

  • Measure parts to ensure conformance to specific dimensions and lay out reference points for holes, trim lines, part locations using precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, optical equipment, alignment instruments etc.

  • Ensure fit and clearance of components parts by using hand tools and power tools.

  • Align, fit and assemble hydraulic, structural and mechanical components into completed assemblies using jigs, fixtures, measuring instruments, hand and power tools.

  • Test functional performance of completed assemblies such as pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, linear guide alignment using appropriate test equipment and assembly procedures.

  • Rework, replace, and realign parts, adjust valves, re-torques fittings, and retest units to ensure conformance to engineering specifications.

  • Responsible for quality inspection and engineering specification compliance of own work and the work of associates working under their direction including the completion of assignments.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); four to five years experience working in production/manufacturing environment and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Forklift certification is required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. A clear understanding of written and spoken English is necessary.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills necessary to complete production reports and describe equipment and production issues to management.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills

  • The ability to efficiently delegate work assignments

  • Proficient interpreting blueprints, diagrams and schematics (pneumatic and hydraulic).

  • Excellent mechanical and/or electrical assembly aptitude and attention to details.

  • Proficiency using pliers, wire cutters, wrenches, screwdrivers and other hands tools is required.

  • Proficiency with power tools such as saws, grinders, drills and lathers is required.

  • Dedication to quality workmanship and the ability to lead others.

  • Good understanding of computers and math skills.

  • Good understanding of computer equipment and programs.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to listen and follow instruction while working independently in a team environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands small, medium and large components. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
