Job Description

IUE-CWA, the Industrial Division of the Communications Workers of America, is currently seeking a staff counsel with two or more years of experience, predominantly in contract negotiations, which could include work as a union representative, local officer or business agent.

The staff counsel will assist IUE-CWA staff in all traditional labor and employment law areas (NLRA, LMRDA, FMLA, etc.), but will have a specific focus on collective bargaining and troubleshooting difficult bargaining relationships. A law degree is required. Successful candidates will also have experience navigating all aspects of negotiations, from the mobilization stage through ratification, and will have a working knowledge of offensive bargaining.

Knowledge of employer research and contract-costing is a plus. This position will report to the IUE-CWA President and General Counsel, but will also be plugged in to the expertise and resources of CWA’s Legal Department and national network of lawyers. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, flexible, able to work with diverse groups, and committed to social justice. Experience with the manufacturing sector is a plus. The position will be based out of Dayton, Ohio, and does require some travel. The staff counsel will be a member of a bargaining unit, it includes all of CWA’s generous employee benefits and will pay between $105,395.03 to $136,469.66, depending on experience.

Please include a cover letter, resume, references and a writing sample when applying for this position on CWA Careers.
