Description:

As the anchor in Northern Virginia’s hunger relief infrastructure, this position is responsible for ensuring both the ability of the Food Bank and its partner network to meet hunger needs today across user/customer segments and identifying and implementing partnerships with new, nontraditional food actors to facilitate the movement of users towards greater financial and food security. Distribution goals will be met by using data to target key population segments.  The Senior Director will be responsible for identifying the relevant Food+ programs that will ensure sustained food security for customers in the NOVA region. This position oversees the management of the NOVA Regional Team and pilot projects operating in the region and will lead, motivate and inspire the team to set, implement and achieve its goals. The Senior Director will also have advocacy responsibilities as they engage with various levels of NOVA government to influence policy and budget allocations in line with evidence being garnered from programs.  This position will ensure compliance in all programs in accordance with federal and internal standards and regulations.

 

Essential Functions:

Regional Strategy Development and Implementation - 55%

  • Accountable for developing strategy for their department/geography; final products/services of their teams
  • Responsible for optimizing the composition and engagement of network partners with the food bank through more impactful and streamlined collaboration
  • Identifies and builds strategic partnerships with traditional food actors and nontraditional partners including corporations, investors, community-based organizations focused on financial literacy, skill building, health, & housing, coalitions, and governmental agencies to further CAFB’s impact.
  • Has a strong understanding or can come up to speed quickly on the needs of the approx. 100+ partner agencies and the food security needs of the NOVA.
  • Has proven experience analyzing data and trends to inform changes in strategy and tactics to achieve goals
  • Experience in managing activity-based budgets, analyzing variances, and reforecasting
  • Strong detailed orientation to ensure consistency and compliance across partners and programs through oversight and timely completion of monitoring activities.
  • Develop budget that meets the anticipated revenues and expenses for the region.  Ensures timely processing of payments.
  • Experience with management of federal and local grants.
  • Own relationship with Federation of VA Food Banks and government funding, work with Operation, Food Resources, VA Region and Government programs to develop annual acquisition distribution plan.
  • Lead the development of and updates to the strategic plan for the region, while adhering to direction set by Executive Leadership Team
  • Responsible for understanding strategic linkages and fostering collaboration between their teams and the rest of the organization.
  • In partnership with the Data & Analytics team, leads the region’s approach to measurement and evaluation with a focus on impact and organizational effectiveness.
  • Leads advocacy initiatives for the region.
  • Work closely with the Development team to create a funding plan for the VA Team, oversee reporting requirements and provide programmatic information as needed.
  • Lead large, cross-functional projects and initiatives as assigned
  • Represents the CAFB and NOVA team externally, makes public appearances, meets with county council and state representatives, and educates the community on hunger issues.
  • Creates policies, procedures, and practices that improve efficiency, effectiveness, and responsiveness of team operations
  • Ensures consistency and compliance across partners and programs through oversight and timely completion of monitoring activities.

 

Performance Management and Oversight - 20%

  • Oversees all programmatic efforts and personnel for regional team in NOVA.  Lead the team in setting and reaching goals
  • Directly supervises employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Directly supervises staff; sets expectations, monitors performance on an ongoing basis and through formal year-end reviews; identifies professional development resources to support team and individual growth.
  • Experience in developing procedures and practices to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and responsiveness of team
  • This position requires a dynamic individual who has an analytic mindset, can think strategically, motivate, and direct a successful team, and realize and communicate programmatic results effectively
  • Develop compliance tools to support the daily/weekly functions of the team to ensure compliance and with federal regulations and prevention of costs incurred by the food bank.
  • Work with relevant departments to allocate resources in accordance with the regional priorities, ensuring optimal utilization.

 

Partner/Stakeholder Engagement- 20%

  • Represents the CAFB and NOVA Team, makes public appearances, meets with county leaders, agency heads, food county members and educates the community on hunger issues.
  • Champion CAFB's interests and priorities within the community at a strategic level, serving as a prominent advocate for our values and contributing significantly to the positive public perception of CAFB.
  • Take a leadership role in networking activities to not only expand CAFB's reach but also to proactively identify emerging trends and stay acutely informed about evolving community needs and concerns.

 

NOVA Facility – 5%

  • Support aspects of the post-construction building process related to advocacy and educating elected officials on the essential role of CAFB presence to garner government financial and policy support
  • Drive agency partner engagement with new facility
  • Ensure ongoing communications with certain key community stakeholders on role facility will play in the community and status of project
  • Work with Development on communication to key investors

 

Miscellaneous

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in related field. Masters preferred
  • At least 7+years management experience overseeing programs, budgets, and staff.
  • Proven track record in leading and managing large teams (10+ direct reports), particularly in a nonprofit or mission-driven environment.
  • Extensive experience in developing and implementing regional or organizational strategies, including managing complex, cross-functional projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strategic partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders, including corporations, community-based organizations, government agencies, and coalitions.
  • Experience in managing activity-based budgets, reforecasting, and ensuring compliance with federal and local grant requirements.
  • Experience and competency with various data management systems and the ability to present data-driven insights.
  • Proven ability to lead large-scale transformational change and successfully manage comprehensive, organization-wide initiatives.
  • Experience in advocacy and representing an organization externally, including making public appearances and working with government representatives.
  • Familiarity with managing post-construction processes and engaging key stakeholders in facility-related projects.
  • Able to navigate the NOVA metro area by car and/or metro; travel in underserved communities.

  • Deputy Chief of Regional Partnerships 
     

Schedule:

  • Hybrid schedule available. Currently working on-site 3 days a week, 2 remote.
  • Regular work hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm
  • The position is based in Lorton, VA –  6833 Hill Park Drive Lorton, VA 22079
     

Compensation:

  • $108,800 to 121,600 / annually
