Description: 

Part of the Direct Distribution Programs department at CAFB, the Community Marketplace and Mobile Market programs are key food distribution programs providing fresh produce where it's needed most. The Community Marketplaces are free, farmers' market style events held each Saturday of the month in Ward 7, D.C., Fairfax County, VA, Prince George’s County, MD, and Arlington County, VA. The Mobile Markets are free, pop-up food distributions in communities with high rates of food insecure families. These markets are primarily open-air market style distributions and typically serve between 100-300+ households per distribution. This position will manage the first and third Saturday Community Marketplaces in Ward 7, D.C. and Prince George’s County, MD respectively, and the Mobile Market sites across Montgomery County and Prince George’s County, MD, working closely with the other Community Marketplace and Mobile Market Coordinator to deliver program excellence. 

 

Essential Functions:   

 
Program Implementation (85%)  

 

Community Marketplaces 

  • Plans for and executes the operation of the DC and MD Community Marketplace distributions on the first and third Saturday of each month. 

  • Ensures that the Community Marketplace distributions in DC and MD display a high level of consistency in program excellence for community members. 

  • Covers VA Community Marketplace operations in the absence of the other Community Marketplace coordinator. 

  • Trains and manages volunteers to support the Community Marketplaces. 

  • Identifies additional community resources and CAFB cooking demos to enhance the Community Marketplace experience as needed. 

 

Mobile Markets 

  • Performs Mobile Market program oversight to ensure quality and consistency for Mobile Markets. Activities include collecting annual contracts; providing annual training on program requirements, operations, and safe food handling practices; ensuring completion of reporting requirements; monitoring sites to provide guidance and support; and auditing sites and reporting findings when issues arise. 

  • Maintains regular communication with Mobile Market site coordinators to ensure that sufficient supports are provided and program guidelines are met. 

  • Conducts at least two visits per each of the 35 MD Mobile Market sites every fiscal year to maintain an understanding of the communities served and ensure that program requirements are being met. 

  • Works with the Operations team to adjust delivery and site distribution schedule when necessary and communicates program logistic needs. 

  • Provides supports to and conducts individual trainings with Mobile Market site coordinators as needed. 

 

General 

  • Completes food orders for Community Marketplaces and Mobile Markets using the CAFB inventory system. 

  • Develops and executes appropriate action plans when needs or issues arise. 

  • Facilitates the improvement of the program operational model. 

  • Conducts presentations to both internal and external stakeholders on the Community Marketplace and Mobile Market programs. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

  

Data and Reporting (15%)  

  • Tracks meals distributed into the community; ensures data-driven goals are being met and food distribution is responsive to participation trends. 

  • Manages client data system at both Community Marketplaces and inputs all new-client registration forms prior to the subsequent market. 

  • Supports Mobile Market site coordinators’ monthly KeySurvey data submissions. 

 

Qualifications

Requirements:  

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree  

  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, preferably in a non-profit environment 

  • Must have a valid driver’s license; mileage reimbursement provided for personal vehicle use 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Familiarity with nutrition and food access systems 

  • Familiarity with local community organizations 

  • Familiarity with inventory databases 

  • Conversational to fluent Spanish 

  • Basic to conversational Mandarin Chinese 

 

Other Skills, Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; comfortable enforcing policies, navigating difficult conversations, and developing and maintaining collegial relationships with all departments and employees of CAFB. 

  • Extremely organized and meticulous with details. 

  • Excellent project management skills, strong follow-through, and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. 

  • Aptitude for working with community and faith-based organizations. 

  • Passion for food access. 

  • Demonstrates high comfort level working with diverse populations. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. 

  • Self-starter with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. 

  • Microsoft Office proficiency. 

 

Physical Demands/Working Conditions: 

  • Sitting - up to 80% of the workday 

  • Lifting - occasionally up to 25-50 pounds (ranging from produce to other food/market supplies)  

  • Driving - ability to travel to sites throughout the D.C. metropolitan area (personal vehicle strongly preferred, mileage reimbursement provided) 

 

Reporting: 

  • Reports to Manager, Community-Based Programs 

 

Schedule:  

  • Hybrid schedule available. Currently, 3+ in-person days required. In-person days include three office days per week in addition to implementation of Community Marketplaces and site visits to Mobile Markets. Hybrid schedule is subject to change. 

  • Regular work hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. 

  • Schedule adjustment for Community Marketplace weeks is Tuesday through Saturday with duties beginning at 7:00am on Saturday.
