Description:.

The Senior Hunger Strategies department includes Senior Brown Bag (SBB) program and Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). SBB is a monthly direct distribution program.  The main goal of this program is to provide supplemental groceries for seniors in need by distributing nutritious food to approved community sites. CSFP is a USDA program that provides a monthly package of healthy groceries and complementary nutrition education to seniors at risk of hunger. CSFP currently operates in Washington, DC, as Grocery Plus and in Montgomery County, MD, as My Groceries To Go. In DC, it includes another USDA program, the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP), which provides vouchers for fresh fruits and vegetables. The Capital Area Food Bank is the executor of both programs for DC, with oversight by the DC Health.

The Inventory Coordinator is responsible for ensuring an accurate inventory of commodities used in CSFP. This includes receiving and putting away deliveries, pulling accurate work orders, preparing sales orders for delivery, conducting regular inventory counts, preparing CSFP box menus, and supervising volunteers during box/bag packing to ensure boxes are packed in line with CSFP federal regulations. This position will support the Senior Hunger Strategies Operations Manager in conducting monthly inventories of both Grocery Plus and My Groceries To Go! 


Essential Functions:

Volunteer Box Packing – 45%

  • Leads and monitors packing of CSFP commodities and Senior Brown Bag (SBB) items
  • Ensures volunteers are packing boxes in compliance with CSFP code of federal regulations.   
  • Creates and follows the monthly menu for each region
  • Works Saturdays as needed to cover volunteer packing shifts
  • Follows all SOPs during CSFP and SBB box packing shifts
  • Communicates effectively with volunteers and the volunteer department to make sure packing needs are met.

Inventory Management- 55%

  • Responsible for accurate and timely pulling of work orders.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely pulling and staging of CSFP boxes for delivery.
  • Tracks and photographs damaged commodities after each delivery of commodities and each packing in compliance with the code of federal regulations.   
  • Safely operates select equipment such as a forklift, pallet jack, carts;
  • Helps maintain inventory records by participating in physical counts and putting away deliveries correctly
  • Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing of CSFP warehouse locations.
  • Assists drivers and CSFP program staff as needed with box staging and delivery.
  • Participates in bi-annual CAFB blackout full inventory counts
  • Responsible for storing all CSFP commodities and boxes in their appropriate aisles and locations as determined in partnership with CSFP Operations Specialist.
  • Assists in completing the monthly FNS 153 report as needed.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Examples: High School Diploma or equivalent/Associate’s/Bachelor’s
  • At least 1-2 years’ experience

Other Skills, Abilities:

  • Basic Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.
  • Excellent customer service skills for interacting with CAFB staff, volunteers, and program participants
  • Communication: This position is expected to read and respond to CAFB communications including but not limited to emails, zoom chats and text messages. 

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle, forklift, or pallet jack with a valid license;
  • Standing and sitting for extended periods;
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feet; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Frequently required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl;
  • Must regularly lift and move objects up to 50 pounds repetitively;
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Food distribution center has high forklift and pallet jack traffic;
  • Frequent exposure to changes in temperature conditions;

Reporting:

  • This position reports to the Sr. Operations Manager, Senior Hunger Strategies.
  • This position is non-supervisory with no direct reports.

 

Compensation:

  • $49,000 - $52,500 

Schedule:

  • Regular hours are 8:00AM-4:30PM, Monday-Friday with a 30-minute lunch break and two 15-minute breaks.
  • Schedule requires, at minimum, one Saturday per month and occasional weeknights (volunteer shifts run from 5:30-8PM)
