ACCOUNTABLE TO: Special Police Officer Chief


 

ACCOUNTABLE FOR: Maintaining safety and security on assigned premises, enforcing laws and regulations, and responding to emergencies


 

ANTICIPATED TRAVEL: 5% - 10% of the time


 

SUMMARY OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The Special Police Officer is tasked with enforcing laws, maintaining public safety, and ensuring security within a designated area or organization. This role involves patrolling assigned areas, responding to emergencies, conducting investigations, and working closely with other law enforcement agencies or security personnel to uphold the law and protect individuals and property.


 

SCHEDULED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. Law Enforcement: Enforce local, state, and federal laws and regulations. Conduct patrols and monitor designated areas to prevent and respond to criminal activity.

2. Emergency Response: Respond to emergencies, including incidents of crime, accidents, and disturbances. Provide first aid and support as needed until emergency services arrive.

3. Investigation: Conduct investigations into criminal activities or incidents. Gather evidence, interview witnesses, and prepare detailed reports and case files.

4. Security Measures: Implement and oversee security measures within the assigned area. Conduct security assessments, monitor surveillance systems, and ensure that security protocols are followed.

5. Public Interaction: Interact with the public, provide assistance, and address any concerns or issues. Maintain a visible presence to deter criminal activity and enhance community relations.

6. Incident Reporting: Document and report incidents, arrests, and other significant activities. Ensure that reports are accurate and completed in a timely manner.

7. Compliance: Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and legal requirements. Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations that may impact duties.

8. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other law enforcement agencies, security personnel, and community organizations. Participate in joint operations and share information as needed.

9. Training and Development: Participate in ongoing training to stay current with law enforcement techniques, legal updates, and best practices. Continuously develop skills and knowledge relevant to the role.


 

UNSCHEDULED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. Participate in external and internal audits/surveys (CARF/CSA/OHCQ) as directed by the supervisor.

2. Participates in quality assurance and performance improvement plans by completing periodic audits or other activities to ensure regulatory compliance and/or improve service delivery.

3. Assist the supervisor, HR, or management with any work-related tasks as requested.

4. Responsible for following regulations of COMAR, CARF, any other regulatory body, and company policies/procedures related to your scope of work.

5. Co-facilitating orientation of all new hires if requested.

6. Support the maintenance of a safe environment by participating in training and drills as requested.

7. Advise the supervisor on the development and implementation of protocols to better enhance the efficiency of day-to-day operations effecting change when approvals are made.

8. Troubleshoot and abate any issues that could adversely affect the day-to-day operations.

9. Report to the Supervisor daily and as requested. Report deviation of operational standards to CEO daily.

10. Check emails and company group texts at least every 30 minutes while on duty; respond accordingly.


 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Regularly walk, stand or stoop; occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 25 pounds; and regularly drive a motor vehicle.


 

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office setting at the main office on Eastern Avenue or in an office of a community residence in a building where clients reside; Work exposes incumbent to contagious or infectious diseases; Work may expose incumbent to dangerous and volatile situations; which could result in bodily injury.

Strong knowledge of law enforcement practices, criminal law, and public safety procedures.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to handle high-pressure situations and make quick, informed decisions.

Proficiency in operating law enforcement equipment and technology.

Strong observational and problem-solving abilities.

 

Preferred Attributes:

Experience in specialized areas such as investigative work, crisis management, or security operations.

Knowledge of specific legal or regulatory requirements related to the assigned environment or organization.

 

Qualifications

LEVEL OF EDUCATION / TRAINING / QUALIFICATIONS:

 

- Maryland special police hard card, governor’s appointment and armed carry permit

- Must have reliable transportation Must have your own weapon

- Must pass a state police background check

- Must be competent as it pertains to the law, able to articulate situations to local PD, able to effect an arrest if necessary, must be knowledgeable of police general orders

 

REQUIRED CERTIFICATION:

Security guard or special police hard card for Maryland.
