Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Payroll to lead and oversee payroll operations across multiple entities within the organization. This role requires an expert with a proven track record of managing complex payroll systems, ensuring compliance, and driving process improvements. The Director of Payroll will manage a team of 3 to ensure the timely and accurate processing of payroll for all staff. Experience with Paycom is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage payroll processing for four (4) separate payrolls across multiple entities within the organization.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing for all employees, in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Supervise and lead a payroll team of 3.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities to enhance team performance and maintain a high-functioning payroll department.
  • Collaborate closely with HR, Fiscal, and other departments to ensure payroll data is accurate and up to date.
  • Ensure proper documentation and audit trails are maintained for all payroll-related transactions.
  • Stay updated on payroll regulations and ensure compliance with any legislative changes.
  • Develop and implement efficient payroll policies, procedures, and systems to streamline operations.
  • Resolve payroll issues and discrepancies quickly and accurately.
  • Manage and maintain payroll-related records, including timekeeping, garnishments, deductions, and benefits.
  • Utilize Paycom for payroll processing and report generation.
  • Assist with payroll-related audits and provide necessary reports and documentation as needed.


Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial and legal best practices and requirements with a proven ability to provide sound and ethical financial counsel to executive leadership.
  • Thorough understanding of and personal involvement with payroll/ HRIS systems and methodologies of payroll administration.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with a detail-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team, with proven leadership and coaching skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws, and compliance at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and experience with HRIS and payroll systems.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving payroll issues.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in payroll management, with a strong background in processing payroll for multiple entities or companies.
  • Experience working in a nonprofit environment.
  • Certification in Payroll (e.g., CPP) is a plus.
  • Experience with Paycom is highly preferred.
