Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Human Resources, the Director of Employee Relations plays a key leadership role in fostering a positive and inclusive work environment. This position is responsible for driving employee relations initiatives, ensuring compliance with employment laws, and providing strategic guidance to address workplace concerns effectively.

Job Responsibilities:

In addition to the responsibilities below, perform all other duties as assigned: 

  • Directly supervise and performance manage an Employee Relations Manager 
  • Lead efforts to enhance employee relations initiatives, conflict resolution, and retention
  • Collaborate with program leadership to implement employee relations strategies. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for HeartShare Human Services Developmental Disability, Wellness and Education divisions
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret data and metrics to develop recommendations and strategies to facilitate positive employee relations and engagement. Create management dashboards to review employee turnover rates, exit interview trends, lawsuits, and other data points related to employee relations
  • Reduce risks by developing programs, policies, and procedures to promote fair and equitable employee relations, grievances practices, performance evaluation practices, and business decisions
  • Partner with HR, legal and program executives on complex employee relations issues. Provide guidance and counsel to employees on employee relations issues and workplace practices
  • Manage the employee grievance process by receiving, evaluating, and responding appropriately to employee concerns
  • Monitor and advise on the performance management review process. Design and drive training sessions and interventions to address performance management needs 
  • Identify and drive philosophies and programs to foster constructive employee relations and ensure the organizations' approach to its employees is fair, respectful and consistent
  • Facilitate training for managers and staff on employee relations topics including performance management, 
  • Remains sensitive and responsive to cultural differences of program participants and staff
  • Participates in in-service training and on-site workshops as required for professional growth and development. Attends external training and workshops at direction of management

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from four year college or equivalent. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience with at least 2 years managing or supervising in employee relations
  • Thorough knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines including; employee relations; conflict resolution, diversity, equity, and inclusion; performance management; employee engagement; and federal and state respective employment laws
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) preferred 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Strategic thinker with a track record of implementing employee relations initiatives
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies. Solid working knowledge of the principles and practices of employee and labor relations
  • Willingness to work outside the scope of the job description and initiative to recommend process improvements within the scope of job responsibilities
  • Strong emotional intelligence quotient and exceptional customer service and communication skills. Thorough understanding of dispute resolution and compensation administration
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and executing programs that measurably impact positive employee relations
