Description

HeartShare Human Services is seeking a dynamic and strategic Vice President of Development to oversee all aspects of our fundraising efforts. Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), the VP of Development will be responsible for driving the organization’s philanthropic strategy and ensuring the success of its fundraising initiatives.

This role involves building and fine-tuning the donor pipeline, cultivating relationships with foundations and major donors, expanding corporate giving, and ensuring excellence in record-keeping and donor stewardship. The VP of Development will play a pivotal role in advancing HeartShare St. Vincent's Services mission to nurture and support children, adults and families in order to expand opportunities and enhance lives.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions of Position:

 

Strategic Pipeline Development: 

  • Lead efforts to strengthen and expand the fundraising pipeline, ensuring robust support from individual, corporate, and institutional donors. 
  • Collaborate with the CDO and team to identify new funding opportunities and maximize existing relationships. 

Foundation Engagement: 

  • Identify and qualify foundation grant opportunities that align with HeartShare’s mission. 
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of grant activities, including prospecting, proposal editing, submission, and reporting. 
  • We regularly meet with foundation prospects to cultivate relationships and present funding opportunities. 

Major Donor Program: 

  • Build and implement a comprehensive major donor program, focusing on personalized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans. 
  • Work with leadership and board members to identify and engage potential high-net-worth supporters. 

Corporate Giving Program: 

  • Develop and execute strategies to grow HeartShare’s corporate giving portfolio, including sponsorships, corporate volunteer programs, and employee giving campaigns. 

Record-Keeping and Donor Stewardship: 

  • Oversee the accuracy and integrity of the donor database, ensuring timely and thorough record-keeping. 
  • Implement best practices in donor acknowledgment, recognition, and engagement. 

Team Leadership and Collaboration: 

  • Serve as a key leader within the development team, providing guidance and mentorship to staff. 
  • Collaborate across departments to align fundraising goals with organizational priorities. 

Partner with the VP of Development, Events, to maximize the success of fundraising events: 

  • Provide strategic guidance on donor cultivation opportunities and sponsorship outreach to align with overall development goals. 
  • Collaborate on post-event donor stewardship plans to ensure sustained engagement and future giving opportunities. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising.
  • Strong knowledge of foundation grant processes, major donor cultivation, and corporate giving strategies. 
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire donors and stakeholders. 
  • Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., Blackbaud) and fundraising analytics. 
  • Commitment to HeartShare’s mission and values. 

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with social justice or criminal justice fundraising. 
  • Experience working with child welfare or anti poverty funders.
