HeartShare St. Vincent’s Services (HSVS) Nuevo Camino program is dedicated to providing 38 unaccompanied minors, ages 5-12, with a supportive, nurturing environment through transitional foster homes, daily education Monday - Friday, and supportive wrap-around services in the East Brooklyn section of New York City. Our program is rooted in ensuring that service delivery is trauma-informed, culturally appropriate, and tailored to the needs of each child while maintaining all program requirements of ORR.

Nuevo Camino is seeking Teachers who will be responsible for assisting the educational coordinator with curriculum development in the subject area they have experience in, and the delivery of assigned teaching activities/services to increase the skill level of the program participants.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide academic assessments of young persons in the shelter program.
  • Prepare age-appropriate curriculum for young persons in transitional foster care program.
  • Teach basic education curriculum, including English and Math, in a group setting.
  • Consult with Clinician to identify young persons with special needs.
  • Develop and implement educational plans tailored to the specific needs of each young person.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings to provide educational updates.
  • Prepare reports as needed.
  • Participate in agency-wide and internal meetings, activities, and training.
  • This is a 24 hour facility and overtime may be required for this role as needed.

Sign on Bonus: $2000

 

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Minimum Education:  Bachelor's degree from four-year college or equivalent
  • Preferred Education:  Master's degree or equivalent
  • New York State License: Teacher Certification, will consider candidates on a Study Plan
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Teacher or equivalent job activities with immigrant adolescents
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required; Experience leading an English as Second Language Curriculum a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide the level of teaching services needed by an immigrant adolescent population.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively write speech and language evaluations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with people from all walks of life.
  • Strong interest in working with immigrant young persons.
