HeartShare is seeking a dedicated and experienced Staff Accountant to join our fiscal team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of accounting experience and a passion for supporting the financial operations of a non-profit organization. As a Staff Accountant, you will play a vital role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting the organization's mission through meticulous financial management. 

 

Job Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions of Position

1. Financial Reporting: 

  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. 
  • Participate in Monthly and Quarterly closing procedures. 
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts, providing valuable insights to support strategic decision-making.

2. General Ledger Management: 

  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data. 
  • Review and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments as necessary to ensure proper accounting treatment.

3. Expense Analysis and Cost Control: 

  • Analyze expenses and identify opportunities for cost reduction or process improvement. 
  • Work closely with department heads to monitor budgetary compliance and provide financial guidance as needed. 

4. Compliance and Audit Support: 

  • Assist in the preparation of documentation and schedules for annual audits and regulatory filings. 
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, government regulations, and internal policies and procedures.

5. Financial Systems and Process Improvement: 

  • Collaborate with the fiscal team to optimize financial systems and streamline accounting processes. 
  • Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency enhancements to improve accuracy and productivity.

6. Special Project 

  • Assists in special projects as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field in nonprofit fiscal management. 
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, preferably in a non-profit or healthcare setting. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Excel 
  • Proficiency in fiscal management software, preferably NetSuite. 
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
