​​​​​​​Job Responsibilities

  • Participates in in-service trainings and on-site workshops as required for professional growth and development.  Attends external trainings and workshops at direction of management.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of the purpose of investigations and the importance of the protection of the individuals served.
  • Adheres to best practices when conducting investigations as described in Investigator trainings.
  • Ensures that all aspects of assigned investigations are conducted, completed, and submitted per mandated deadlines according to NYS OPWDD's Part 624 and Part 625 regulations and NYS SED's requirements.
  • Provides feedback and follow-up as needed when requested by OPWDD, the Justice Center, and HeartShare's Incident Review Committee (IRC).
  • Exhibits a good understanding of the various classifications of incidents and formulates investigatory questions based on these.
  • Gathers all relevant documentation needed to thoroughly investigate an incident.
  • Schedules interviews and arrives on time to conduct them.
  • As part of the conclusion of an investigation, answers the investigatory question(s) based on a thorough summary of the evidence and supportive documentation.  
  • Formulates recommendations that directly relate to the findings of an investigation and are written in a clear and concise manner so that management knows what is expected to be done and what supportive documentation is needed to demonstrate they have been addressed.
  • Clearly explains the reasons for substantiating/unsubstantiating abuse/neglect and finding/unfounding mistreatment in the conclusions section of investigative reports.  Remains objective and fair at all times. 
  • Participates collaboratively and collegially as a member of the Investigations team.  Interfaces effectively and appropriately with other agency departments and divisions.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in social work, psychology, human services, special education, public administration or related field from a four year college or equivalent
  • One year of direct experience working in Developmental Disabilities preferred
  • adult service programs (day and residential) preferred. Previous investigative experience a plus.
  • Good oral and writing skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Knowledgeable about part 624 and 625 regulations or ability to learn
  • Capable of working under pressure and deadlines
  • Flexibility and a strong work ethic; willing to take on additional tasks and work beyond normal work hours when required
  • Driving preferred but not a requirement.
