Description

HeartShare St. Vincent’s Service’s is looking for a youth development professional that is passionate about working in communities with families and children.The Assistant Program Director will assist the Program Director in all phases of program operations and will be on-site, and in charge in the absence of the Program Director. The Assistant Program Director will be responsible for DYCD administrative responsibilities, monitoring activities, and ensuring staff are properly supervised.

 

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions of Position:

  •  In addition to responsibilities below, performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Uses positive approaches when handling difficult situations.  Avoids gossip and negative discussions.  Remains flexible and adapts to change.
  •  Serves as role model for program participants.  Abides dress code.  Conducts self in a professional manner at all times.
  • Remains sensitive and responsive to cultural differences of program participants and staff.
  • Participates in in-service trainings and on-site workshops as required for professional growth and development.  Attends external trainings and workshops at direction of management.
  • Represents the organization both within and outside of the work environment in a manner that promotes the mission, vision and values of the agency.  Personally, adheres to organizational mission, vision and values, in addition to all other agency policies and procedures.
  • Computer savvy, with knowledge of using Microsoft Office programs. 
  •  Available on evenings, weekends, and holidays. 
  • Assist Program Director with program operations and duties such as administrative duties, daily attendance, Food Program attendance, monthly reports, incident reports, planning of events and all aspects of programming.
  • Give assistance to the Program Director with hiring and recruitment, evaluations, trainings, and overall supervision of staff and youth. 
  • Aid the Program Director with monitoring staff punching-in and punching-out and all Paycom responsibilities. 
  • Experience and\or knowledge of NYCHA, DYCD, DOH, DOE, or child care policy and procedures.
  • Maintain consistent communication and collaboration with all stakeholders such as Resident Association, Council Member office, and NCO’s. 
  • Assists in insuring a safe environment for program participants.
  • Monitor other Cornerstone activities as required by the Program Director.
  •  Assists in the provision of basic counseling services as needed (peer mediation, self-control, decision making).
  • Accompanies youth on cultural and recreational field trips.
  •  Pick-up youth from schools and escort them to afterschool programming as needed.
  • Assumes other duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma required.  Associates Degree in Human Services, Education, or another equivalent field preferred
  • At least two years of experience working with children or in youth development. 
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Experience in working with diverse communities, and knowledge of multicultural issues including race, class, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender expression, etc
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • CPR and RTE certification preferred.
