Description

The After-School coordinator is responsible for the development of age-appropriate activities for the After-school program. They will oversee after-school program instructor(s) (Activity Specialist) to ensure they are creating quality activity plans, and implementing quality activities and programming for youth. The Coordinator is also responsible for facilitating and planning trips, events, workshops, and activities for youth. The After-School coordinator will be responsible for assisting with professional development workshops.

In addition to the responsibilities below, perform all other duties as assigned.

  • Uses positive approaches when handling difficult situations.  Avoids gossip and negative discussions.  Remains flexible and adapts to change.
  • Serves as a role model for program participants.  Abides by dress code.  professionally conducts self at all times.
  • Remains sensitive and responsive to cultural differences of the program Participants and staff.
  • Participates in in-service training and on-site workshops as required for professional growth and development.  Attends external training and workshops at the direction of the Program Director.
  • Represents the organization both within and outside of the work environment in a manner that promotes the mission, vision, and values of the agency.  Personally, adheres to organizational mission, vision, and values, in addition to all other agency policies and procedures.
  • Spearheads activity plan development with the support of the Program Director and ensure that the Activity Specialist creates quality, age-appropriate activity plans every week.  
  • Assists in ordering, maintaining, and keeping inventory of after-school supplies.
  • Maintains written activity plans. Ensures Activity Specialist completes quality activity plans every week.
  • Creates monthly calendars and parent notifications with the approval of the Program Director.
  • Maintains accurate activity and daily attendance records of all program participants.
  • Monitors the progress of program participants.
  • Maintains communication with parents and staff.
  • Assists in ensuring a safe environment for program participants.
  • Assists in monitoring other Cornerstone activities as required by the Program Director.
  • Assists in the provision of basic counseling services as needed (peer mediation, self-control, decision-making).
  • Accompanied youth on cultural and recreational field trips.

 

Qualifications

  • High School diploma and two years experience working with youth or an Associate’s degree in child development, recreation, or a related field. Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Experience with planning curriculums.
  • Experience in working with diverse communities, and knowledge of multicultural issues including race, class, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender expression, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
