Job Title:                    Part Time Custodian (IMRF)

Department:               Parks and Facilities

Location:                    550 Business Center Drive. Mount Prospect, IL 60056

Reports To:                Facility Trades Manager

Status:                        Seasonal Part-time, Non-exempt

Hours:                        20 – 40 hours

 

Essential Functions

Performs custodial work inside and outside the Weiss Community Center, Pool building, 401 Administration Office, and 550 Business Center Drive with a major emphasis on neatness and sanitation. Flexible scheduling will be a necessary part of this position.  Weekend and evening hours may be required of this position.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Empty wastebaskets; sort recycling
  • Clean and sanitize toilets, showers, sinks
  • Pick-up litter
  • Strip, wax and buff floors with the necessary machinery
  • Vacuum and shampoo carpets
  • Shovel snow
  • Sweep sidewalks
  • Suggest and implement improvements to the care of the facility
  • There is a strong emphasis on always having common areas litter free; and keeping the locker and washroom areas neat and sanitized.
  • Drives park district vehicle between facilities
  • Maintains records as needed
  • Monitors contractual custodial contracts

 

Risk Management

  • Actively supports and enforces the safety program instituted by the Park District
  • Maintains a working knowledge of all general agency and department-specific safety rules
  • Attends required safety program and in-service education meetings as directed
  • Corrects unsafe conditions and/or reports them to your director supervisor
  • Enforces safety disciplinary policies and procedures
  • Uses material handling equipment or staff assistance when lifting and/or moving objects 50 pounds or heavier
  • Uses protective gloves, masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE)

 

Additional Functions

  • Performs other duties and functions as requested
  • On call nights and weekends as needed

 

Required Qualifications

  • Good knowledge in the use of custodial maintenance tools.
  • Ability to operate buffing machines and floor scrubbers
  • Familiarity with safe handling of mixed cleaning chemicals and concentrates.
  • Understanding the requirements for health and standards for sanitation.
  • Ability to understand work orders left by the staff and communicate problems found.
  • An attitude of friendliness and helpfulness to workers and patrons of the Park District.
  • Be in good physical condition and must have the ability to handle strenuous and varied physical activity, including but not limited to, extensive lifting, standing, and walking
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly
  • Valid driver’s license

 

Recommended Qualifications

  • Experience in custodial work
  • Certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 3 months of employment

5.         Employee will be required to perform the following work:

 

___  Sedentary Work.   Lifting 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and small tools.  Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.

 

__  Light Work.           Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds.  Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree or when it involves sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.

 

___  Light Medium Work.   Lifting 30 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
