Job Purpose

The College Committee Members (CCM) report to the Community Programs Manager. They work with museum staff, contracted teaching artists, and the Learning and Community Engagement audiences, including visitors from the Community Access Program. The CCM meets bi-weekly to discuss various topics related to art and community. They also assist in leading museum tours and art activities, assist with College Night, and help publish the Palm Zine: College Students’ Perspective on Art + Community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with leading tours and art activities for the Community Access Program (CAP) groups at the museum and offsite.
  • Prepare classroom areas and materials before art activity programs. Clean up the classroom after art activities.
  • Aid in maintaining art supply inventory.
  • Complete bi-weekly assignments, including readings, written reflections, project research, art-making demonstrations, and oral presentations.
  • Participated in workshops to learn to use digital cameras, InDesign, and Lightroom software, resulting in the publishing of the Palm Zine.
  • Collaborate with staff to lead activities and promote College Night at the Norton.
  • Working with the Learning and Community Engagement Department staff for community events.
  • Assist with creating content for CCM on social media.

Qualifications:

The successful College Committee candidate will:

  •  Be enrolled currently in college.
  • Have a strong interest in art education and working in a museum setting.
  • Possess a laptop computer to bring to the office to complete tasks.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Convey a professional appearance and attitude.
  • Be flexible and able to adapt to diverse working conditions.
  • Be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Pass a background check.
  • Experience working in the arts and education is a plus but not required.
  • All CCMs must have a reliable means of commuting to multiple work locations.

Schedule:

  • Summer 2025 - June 2nd – July 18th.  
  • Bi-weekly meeting on Fridays
  • Workdays are Monday – Saturday as needed.
  • 10 - 15 hours per week.
  • Hourly Pay: $17.00

  • Bi-weekly meeting on Fridays
  • Monday – Saturday as needed.
  • 20 - 30 hours a month
