Position Purpose

 

The Norton seeks a Development Assistant for Individual Giving to work in-person with the fundraising professionals of the Major Gifts team to cultivate and steward individual donor relationships and manage crucial processes and projects that strengthen the Museum’s strategic vision and community impact. This position will interface internally and externally with major donors (giving annually at the $10,000 level and above) and support the Norton’s robust Individual Giving program responsible for securing over $3.6 million in annual support.

 

This role offers a unique opportunity for anyone interested in expanding or developing a passion for nonprofit fundraising in conjunction with fine art and cultural organizations. A successful candidate must be able to collaborate in a team setting, possess strong interpersonal skills including effective written and verbal communication abilities, and be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. This is a non-exempt position that will report to the Director of Individual Giving. The Norton is looking for an ideal candidate to join the Individual Giving team as soon as possible.

Responsibilities

 

Donor Stewardship & Correspondence:

  • Support Individual Giving Team’s annual efforts to cultivate and sustain relationships with donors and prospects to generate major gifts.
  • Assist in identifying annual funding opportunities and creating sponsorship and impact reporting materials for individual donors.
  • Draft and prepare materials for strategic major donor outreach, including annual solicitations and communications for the Museum’s Chairman’s Circle, Curatorial Councils, and Annual Fund supporters.
  • Respond to donor inquiries and questions in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain Individual donor files and records in Altru, the Museum’s donor database.
  • Conduct research on donors and prospects and support prospect management efforts

Gift Processing & Revenue Reporting:

  • Process and acknowledge Individual Major Gifts in a timely manner
  • Generate and mail gift acknowledgements for individual donors, including the Chairman’s Circle, Curatorial Councils, and Annual Fund supporters
  • Draft and send gift agreements and pledge forms for Individual Major Donors
  • Generate and process monthly pledge reminders and invoices
  • Create, run, and distribute monthly reports for revenue areas under the Individual Giving umbrella

 

Individual Giving Team Support:

  • Manage logistics, scheduling, communications, and material preparation for donor meetings.
  • Support coordinated follow-up and internal / external communications for donor interactions
  • Review outgoing correspondence for accuracy and grammar and proofread documents, reports, invitations, etc.
  • Support special requests from Individual Major Donors, i.e. reservations, RSVP’s, tours, etc.
  • Track Individual Giving and Major Gifts expenses and support annual budgeting process.
  • Provide day-of event support for VIP events during and after-hours, as scheduled.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work confidently and engagingly with colleagues, donors, volunteers, and staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and capacity to learn and utilize donor management databases (experience with Altru, Raiser’s Edge, or other fundraising software a plus).
  • Self-starter with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, anticipate demands, and deliver on time and on budget in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills and outstanding attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate the highest level of personal and ethical standards.
  • Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • An interest in the arts, fine art, and/or cultural organizations.
  • Experience working in a museum, art-related, non-profit, and/or customer service entity a plus but not required.

 

Physical Requirements

  • The person in this position must be able move about inside and outside the office; to frequently communicate with managers and employees, ability to access and operate computer and other office equipment; and ability to lift, move or carry up to ten (10) pounds.
