The Barowsky School of Business is seeking a part-time instructor to teach a course in the Master of Science in Cybersecurity program during the spring in 2025 (March-May 2025). The class meets on Wednesdays online.  

Responsibilities

  • Teach a three-unit course at the graduate level
  • Evaluate and grade student work and provide feedback to students
  • Mentor and advise students on the progress of their projects and coursework
  • Uphold academic performance standards and integrity
  • Instructors are required to work with the School to complete assessments of the course for AACSB Assurance of Learning purposes

Course Descriptions

  • MSC-5707-1 Defenders vs. Attackers - Bridging Perspectives (3/17/2025-4/30/2025; 6:00-10:00 pm Pacific on Wednesdays online) -- Students on this course embark on a dynamic exploration of cybersecurity where defenders and attackers converge. The course provides a holistic understanding of the hacker's and defender's mindset, covering MITRE - ATT&CK (Adversarial Tactics, Techniques, and Common Knowledge) framework, penetration testing, threat hunting, and attacks and countermeasures. Use of NIST Cybersecurity Framework will be emphasized. Students engage in hands-on simulations with red, blue, and purple teams, emphasizing collaboration and information sharing. The curriculum includes proactive threat hunting, automation in defensive solutions, and collaborative efforts to enhance security postures. Students will learn to find vulnerabilities in assets, identify modes of access, and remove existing threats. The course not only equips students with the skills to protect assets but also empowers them with ethical hacking techniques to uncover vulnerabilities. This course provides a learning experience to bridge perspectives, fostering a resilient cybersecurity ecosystem against evolving threats.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Technology, Information Security/Cybersecurity or a closely related field
  • Professional work experience in Informaton Risk Management, IT/Cybersecutity industry
  • Google Suite: Docs, Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Sheets, and Slides
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Zoom
  • Digital Camera
  • Must be a California resident

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Technology, Information Security/Cybersecurity or a closely related field
  • Teaching experience at the graduate level, especially in courses related to ethical hacking, cybersecurity operations, or penetration testing
  • Extensive hands-on experience in penetration testing (red team) or cyber defense (blue team) operations
  • Expertise in defensive tools used by blue teams, such as firewalls, IDS/IPS systems, SIEMs, and endpoint security solutions
  • Strong knowledge of cyber attack vectors, such as SQL injections, cross-site scripting (XSS), buffer overflows, social engineering, and phishing.
  • Industry-recognized certifications related to offensive/defensive security
