Here at The Grove we are being changed by God to reach all people. Through our sports leagues and events, we are able to build a bridge into our community, shining the light of God’s love throughout the Riverside area. Our Assistant Director of Sports Ministry works with the Sports Pastor to oversee The Grove’s sports leagues, developing participants in their faith and connection within the church. With the large number of participants in The Grove’s sports ministry, this position combines a high level of administrative skill with a heart and vision for outreach ministry.Â

MINISTRY LEADERSHIP – 40%                              Â
- Develop relationships with families, athletes, and the local community to encourage ministry connection and spiritual formation.
- Recruit, train and support volunteer coaches and referees; ensure volunteer alignment with ministry vision and goals.
- Build and coordinate coach registration process.
- Coordinate volunteer onboarding process for coaches, including conducting interviews and checking references; ensure compliance with onboarding policies.
- Disciple volunteer leaders; foster a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork and spiritual growth among participants.
- Support devotionals, prayer and faith-based conversations within sports ministry programs.
- Oversee preparations for youth sports coaches meetings.
PROGRAM COORDINATION & ADMINISTRATION – 30%   Â
- With Sports Pastor, oversee planning and implementation for all leagues.
- Coordinate logistics for practices, games, and ministry events.
- Build and coordinate player registration process; maintain clear communication with participants and parents.
- Send out coach communications for field assignments, practice times, team names, etc.
- Train coaches and sports officials on sports safety practices.
- Schedule sports officials.
- Coordinate picture day and end of season party for youth sports leagues.
- Assist with seasonal field and gym preparation as well as teardown.
- Ensure Sports Ministry activities are included on the church master calendar.
- Coordinate use of sports areas by external and internal groups.
OPERATIONAL AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT – 20%     Â
- Assist in budgeting, purchasing equipment, and maintaining sports ministry resources.
- Provide on-field supervision for youth sporting events as needed.
- Develop and implement promotional and communication strategies for sports programs.
OTHER – 10%                                                 Â
- Cultivate intimacy with God and growth in Christ-like character through personal and corporate spiritual disciplines.
- Attend team meetings, church all-staff meetings, devotions and trainings.
